Loved it all black school by the way. We were "inspired" by Grambling and Southern. Had em rockin'
Getting to march in the Mardi Grasparade in New Orleans was great too
same there was probably only 3-4 legit band geeks out of seventy of us. my favorite class throughout highschool by far
I played the alto sax
we had no female trombone players in my band. Most of them played the trumpet or the french horn. Was it the instrument that you wanted to play?High School marching band, College marching band, concert band? etc
I played trombone.
I went to a black school so it wasn't that bad.

I lied I never was apart of a bandBut me on canada's finest.
we made a couple o our cadences and our director even let us come up with our own versions of popular songs and play em at the football games in the stands.I gotta say that was the only class where everybody tried to get there early.
We would come in and play some off the cuff chit or something current to warm up.
My favorites that stick out:
- we played the Hawaii Five-O theme song on loop one day
which was cool because I got to set it off on the Tympanis.
- One day a couple of dudes on the tubas put their pieces in and started playin'
the bassline to "The Man Right Chea", and I said "oh chit" and grabbed a couple
sticks and got on the set to play the drum part. Folks was comin' in the band room
from the hallway screamin' "Uh OHHHHHHH!!"
- At home I figured out how to play Ginuwine "Tell Me Do You Wanna" by ear.
So when I got to school the next day, I started foolin' around on the xylophone
with it. A couple of folks in woodwinds caught on and gave some body to it, and
one of my dudes from the drum section got on the big bass drum and a nearby snare
to shape it out. We played a verse worth of it, and when I finished the chorus I dropped
the sticks and yelled "I'll break you off 'til the SUUUUN comes U-UH-UUUUP",
and like 30 muthafuccas went "BAYBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!"
LOL. Good times.
I lied I never was apart of a band
I made it up
