I haven’t outgrown rap music, but I have definitely outgrown discussing it in any way or participating, discussing and thinking about anything surrounding the culture in general.

That happened a few years ago.

From beef, to first week sales, to who’s better than who, to artists personal lives, old war stories, gang politics, Top 10s… all of it I pretty much left that all behind.

Music is still and can still be great, but the culture at large is for kids and people who haven’t stopped being kids mentally and emotionally, so I leave all of that to them.

Yeah I outgrew it….the trap shyt sounds good sometimes but it’s for young people….even some of that old shyt we grew up listening to is really dark and depressing when you think about it. I’ll add to it that even this diddy shyt has me looking at music I used to love a little funny. Thankfully there’s still a lot of undeniable classics and cool underground shyt like DOOM and roc Marci to listen to

I'm :flabbynsick: so I stick to the OGs who are still able to make fresh albums like Nas, LL Cool J's latest (fire!) and that Common & Pete Rock album.

If I listen to negative or gangster ish, it's in the gym. Sometimes you need "aggressive content" to get through a work out. And again it would be from older emcees who can rap really well, like Pusha T for ex.

I also listen to some of the UK cats. If you can get past the British accent; some of these brothas can really spit and have socially conscious lyrics too.

If you expanded your hiphop palate out the gate then you shouldn’t have these problems. It’s why I’m glad I put Tribe, De La, Kast, and groups like that first. Yeah I listened to the gangsta shyt too but I never took them too seriously even as a kid. NWA just felt like some shyt I wasn’t supposed to be listening to but did it anyway. I always mostly kept it music when it came to this genre so I’ll never feel like I’ve “outgrown” hiphop. Even now, I can’t listen to the crazy shyt that’s dropping but I do appreciate the younger artists dropping good music that I can listen to with no problem. Hiphop is in a good place.. it’ll be even better if some of these current underground cats got a few mainstream looks

New shyt I've been outgrown for over a decade now. It's been close to 15 years since I enjoyed new hip-hop. I still enjoy it prior to 2011.

It ceased to be Hip Hop a long ass time ago. I'll listen to new shyt from reputable artists that I feel fits the mold of the shyt that I like. But these new rappers that only diss opps and are really just gang members masquerading as rappers is not for me, especially if they're wack.

I was just listening to Joey Badass' 1999 debut the other day. Such a great album.

I think people are gonna look at the 10's era more fondly as time passes by.

"The constant drama, the negativity, the beef, the shooting, the killings. the fed cases."

None of this is about hip hop.

There's a lot of dope hip hop MUSIC being released. Unfortunately the Coli spends so much time focused on fukkery instead of actual music discussions.

If you’re really a hip hop head you don’t outgrow hip hop. You grow with hip hop. Wherever you are in life there is a soundtrack that can accompany that. Do the work and find it.
Most of these guys aren’t into music. They thought they were hiphop heads but they just love the music they grew up on and all their music discussions revolve around defending that era as the best

I really can't get into the new hardcore/gangsta stuff for the most part. Musically, it just doesn't sound good

Since like 27/28 I've been listening to way more jazz. But I do listen to some art rappers here and there.

Honestly though, to me, jazz and hip hop are like the same genre. People talking shyt through instruments instead of just talking shyt. And I mean talking shyt in a good way, like barbershop talk.

At the same time, is listen to a cat like Bruiser Wolf and I'm back in hip hop bag.

I really think 2011-2013 was the last year where a lot of the Coli genuinely enjoyed new albums from new-ish artists.
