Platform games are dead?
I'll say this again for you "gamers": Super Mario Galaxy one and two were the best games of this current gen. Some of you hold onto this dumbass "hardcore gamer" label that you miss out on some fantastic shyt.
This generation around "gamers" consider "hardcore" games to be games with heavy swearing, cinematic blockbusters that are usally shooters. Not to take away from those games but other games are usually overshadowed because of these games.
I mean Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Smash Bros and all other Nintendo franchises are their bread and butter.
People keep saying Nintendo needs to grow up but what does that mean?? Make Mario into a very short humanoid plumber with extremely high polygon count so you could count the stitches in his denim?? Make Mushroom Kingdom gritty and grungy???
Turn The Legend of Zelda into a eyeball tearing, heart ripping, neck cracking beast with bloodbath style executions?? Play God of War or Castlevania.
That will tarnish the games and make them not what they're supposed to be. Every Zelda games released were amazing save for comparisons and a new updated zelda with a mature theme would just not be Zelda.(Well thinking about it Zelda games weren't very kiddy minus Wind Waker)
The only game I know that literally changed up in it's direct sequel to that which was mature and actually was good was Jak and Daxter 2. The first was lighthearted, and fun while the second one Jak became angry and spoke and cursed and used guns but that worked because it was only one game before it. I can't imagine Super Mario Vengeance where Bowser looks surreal and can burn Mario to death.
OOT, Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess all had legitimate mature themes and moments that were actually scary imo(Ganon's Castle in OOT, Hyrule Castle Market as Adult Link with the zombies, Shadow Temple, Majora's Mask with the scary moon and TP's wolf parts.)
There was always major differences in each new iteration of a Nintendo game and people I bet ignored them or didn't play them because I remember each vividly.
People say Mario games are all the same yet Mario 64 was regular platforming across lots of different worlds through paintings.
Mario Sunshine introduced the f.l.u.d.d. for Mario which was a waterpack that was used to kill certain enemies and navigate obstacles.
Mario Galaxy introduced small planets with cool star launch segments with powerups not found in Mario 64. It was basically like a upgrade to Mario 64.
Mario Kart 64 was the typical meat and potatoes kart racing game.
Mario Kart Double Dash for GC had two riders per kart and whatnot.
Mario Kart DS and Wii was the typical bread and butter Mario Kart but Mario Kart recently released on the 3DS have flying segments and underwater driving.
The one game Nintendo kind of "matured" was Metroid with Metroid: Other M but that shyt wasn't as good as the regular Metroids with it's new Teen rating.
I can see Metroid being that "mature' Nintendo game fans ask for because the metroid world was always dark and kind of scary. I can't wait to see Metroid Prime 4. I'm imagining it will look sort of like Halo 4.
In short, people are usually on some BS saying "all Mario and Zelda games are the same" because they are not and I can attest to this because I played and beat them all.
i take that back, 3d platform games are all but dead, but i agree smg was the best
i played both galaxy games, they were good, 2 was even better(cause you can beat it with luigi), but best games this gen?
Mario Galaxy 2 if I had to round up best games this gen would be in the top 10 list easily. It's really no other platformers especially 3d that I've played since that's fukking with SMG 1&2.
Only side scrolling platformer fukking with Mario this gen in LBP and Rayman(to an extent).
