Eat a banana or two, some corn, or some oatmeal(choose one not all of them) 2-3 hours before bedtime and you will have a deep sleep. They contain tryptophan which eventually turns to melatonin and help you sleep. They also have melatonin in them already. Just make sure you sleep in complete darkness or you won't make a lot of melatonin regardless of how much you eat.

they don't really have enough to actually have an effect, same with turkey. Thats why you need to take 5htp and melatonin pills

get a fan in ur room
there is a droid app that I use (not sure if its on iphone) called "Relax and Sleep" and it has a huge selection of sounds, I use the "Air Conditioner" sound and it leaves me :dead: it allows your brain to focus on something rather than just thinking about a billion things at once. They also have stuff like Rain, streams etc but Rain never had that calming effect on me that most people get from it so I rock with the air conditioner sound.

They work with the tryptophan to help relax you and put you to sleep. The problem is people eat too much protein with these foods and protein has tyrosine which makes dopamine and keeps you up which is why turkey isn't good for sleep. You want a low protein, high carbohydrate whole food for a deep sleep. Tyrosine and tryptophan use the same pathways into the brain so when they are eaten together you will have less tryptophan go into your brain to eventually be made into melatonin while also have dopamine which makes it hard to sleep.

You don't want to take 5-htp too much unless it's with the foods I mentioned because most of it won't be absorbed and it may be too much in the blood which can cause problems in the long run. Melatonin is the same as the foods have it already and if you puff herb it releases it and too much of it will make you feel lazy and I doubt he will want that. It will also give you crazy dreams. Herb and the foods I mentioned is all he needs.

Ambien :heh:

but what has always worked for me is to Read a book. Watching TV or playing on the computer just before bed is bad because it makes your mind extremely active. Reading a book will slow your heartrate and make you sleepy.

Came in here to post this, usually being on the computer/watching TV makes it harder for me to sleep. Except if it's porn :leostare::win::myman:

Something I didn't see in the thread is the importance of the lights in your room. I strangely have a hard time sleeping in a room that is pitch black, but I can't have too much light either, so my nights can easily get fukked up. Same goes with noise: I'm very sensitive to noise, but no noise at all creeps me out. That's also quite important for your sleep.

Physical activity goes both ways for me: I sleep great when I've been walking a lot, but not when I've played basketball (even if I played in the afternoon). Sometimes I still have that adrenaline flowing hours after playing, and my muscles might be aching, and more often than not it takes hours before sleeping even though I'm exhausted.
