Brehs I can't sleep for shyt! :damn:

My mind is always racing like I need to be doing something.

I guess it's because there's so much I want to do right now in my life I feel like if I'm sleeping I'm losing :birdman:

Any tips :why:

Someone told me drink tea. Doesn't that have caffeine in it tho :noah:

I'll help. Some general advice, but also, once you're sleep can you stay asleep or do you wake up multiple times a night?

It's been hard for me too the past year. The biggest thing I try to do is cut off all electronics about an hour before bed. Light fukks with your natural sleep cycle, and watching TV or a computer will have your brain thinking too hard. It needs to cool off.

Only use your bed for sleeping and sex. Some even say don't read in bed, although I would say that's okay, but best not to do at night. You want your body and mind to have a sub-concious connection that when you lie in bed that means it is time to sleep. If you do other things in bed besides sleep and sex you will tell your brain that you do not need to be asleep if you're in a bed, which is bad for those with insomnia.

Try to meditate or do something relaxing within 30 minutes of when you plan to sleep. That helps me a lot. White noise can be helpful, ranging from a fan to ocean noises, etc.

I use vitamins and supplements. Mainly Valerian Root, GABA, and Theanine. Melatonin is a good one, but you have to take it at the same time every night, or else you'll REALLY not be able to sleep. Play with what works for you. Teas can be good, just make sure to get ones that are meant for calming or sleep, and be careful with Kavaa. That shyt can fukk you up, and although it's relaxing, that shyt is awful for your liver!

I also take the occasional Xanax before I lay down, but I also have anxiety at night, and that helps quiet my brain down, but it can be addictive, so be careful if you go that route. Don't do it if you don't have to. Same goes for relying on drinking or weed, although I think weed has a lot of benefits, if you need it to sleep and you don't have it one day, you're fukked.

Good luck. The biggest thing is don't let your mind snowball. If you can't sleep, don't get upset. Just allow yourself to have the thought and then try to think of something relaxing, like a beach or night sky. Really visualize it and focus on your breathing. It works, I promise. If you go more than an hour in bed and cannot sleep, maybe get up and try to read a bit and then try again. Also, timing sex so that you can sleep right afterwards helps a lot.

EDIT: I skipped over your mindset about needing to be doing something. Try shifting your focus. If you can't sleep, then you can't be efficient to get the work you need to get done, done. Sleep is a vital part of success for elite athletes for example. Treat sleep as a means in and of itself. Treat sleep as a way to get things done, because if you can't sleep, you'll gradually wear yourself out and lose energy and efficiency when you work.

Also, this is HUGE. Exercise. I do MMA, Judo, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and I wouldn't be able to sleep for shyt if I didn't. Find a physical activity and do it as much as possible.

I usually do workout before bed. :sadbron:

If anything I'm amped up even more :noah:

Yes, if your workout before bed that actually does the opposite of relaxing you. it hyped you up. It's best to not workout too much within 2-3 hours of going to sleep. If I finish a hard workout at 9 there's no way I can sleep before 12, for example.

Your problem could be as simple as that. If you're feeling driven to where you're working out at your bedside at night and feeling like you need to be hustling and working instead of sleeping that's going to snowball your mind and make it worse.

BS, no one works out every day.

Admit that you rarely if ever work out Chris. And no a few pushups doesn't count. I don't want people to have the impression that exercising could be a detriment for any scenario. There is nothing better. There is no better cure.

Got me sounding like Michelle Obama right now.

I dunno man. I workout HARD. 5-6 days a week, aerobic and anaerobic. You may be right, but my biggest thing is submission grappling/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which is a lot like mental chess. There's so much thinking involved, that a lot of times I think my insomnia might not be related t working out too close to bedtime, but moreso the fact that I can't stop thinking about moves, techniques, transitions, etc. It's scary how obsessive many people get over grappling. I've read lots of articles on people that can't sleep that do combat sports just because they're thinking about that shyt all the time.

and take an herbal tea about an hour before bed, specifically valerian root

I work out 4 - 5 days a week and that includes hand to hand and sometimes training with very loud noises(mortar, machine gun fire etc.). I also usually hit the gym at night since its packed any other time. Anyway, i dont have those problems you mention. I wouldnt be able to sleep without exrcercising. Like i told Chris, you may have some sleep disorder/psychological issue. Normal healthy people, all you need is exercise. Throw those pills in the bushes.

Also. Im not sure but i hope no one is mistaking "long sleep" with "good sleep." I usually only need a good 5 hours and im good to go. I can even go with 3 good hours on occasions. So dont think that just because you're not getting "doctor recommended" 8-9 hours something is wrong with you. Consider yourself lucky that you dont need that many.
