PE was required for us as well, for one semester.
But we had an A/B schedule.

I think it was all year for us, two semesters, but I can’t remember. ‘Tis been a while.
I did that in gym. But it wasn't high school.
No lie, we did that in like grade school. I just have been 9 or 10 years old.
We also had a big net that reached to the ceiling. Maybe 20 or 30 feet up? You could climb that too. It was like American Gladiators.

WENT TO A PRIVILEGED SCHOOL
My elementary school was/is predominantly black, but it was middle class blacks and mostly 2 parent households. White flight was essentially wrapping up when we moved in. In kindergarten and 1st grade, maybe 30% of a class was white, by 2nd/3rd school was probably 90% black.
It was a public school but definitely a privilege to grow up with black kids who all had invested parents and a sense of community pride

And during the designated day in high school. It was a one semester requirement but we had a senior who took it every year As an elective. (He wasn’t going to college)
