Nothing special...my first two wave of fish died, They I decided to put gold fish in it when it is a heated tank and now they are losing all thier fins:mjgrin:

I got a few tropical fish in there but 200 dollars worth of cichlids died:mjcry:

So then I said never again, and just brought trash fish for the kids to look at...

I never clean it cause I don't give a fukk and every time someone comes to my house I offer it for free...I have a 90 gallon filter on it so it stays pretty clear, and the fish I have in it now have been living for a year.... don't do it breh. Stay away. You will lose interest in it. It's not fascinating enough to hold a young brehs attention.

And for Gods sake, don't do salt water:picard:

Throw a couple of Oscars in there

had one. threw it in the bushes as the maintenance is a bytch. if you want a passive pet that's also nice to look at, get a lizard and deck out its cage/aquarium.

For a lizard I'd recommend a bearded dragon. They're chill as fukk

Snakes are also easy to maintain. I'd get a ball python

I made the mistake. Don't do it. The only reason I still have it is because the damn sucker fish I have won't die. 13 years old and has eaten every fish I've put in with it. Sometimes I go months without seeing it thinking it died then it'll show up out of no where. I keep it in my collectibles room. That thing is evil looking but he's our nemo (son named him) and we won't kill it. I just want it to die but wont do it knowingly. Just so I can get rid of the whole set up.:mjcry:

All the warnings are true. Pain in the ass.

IMO don't fukk with fish. Get yourself a big tank with natural rocks and REAL plants. The plants actually clean the water. Looks great with the lights. Fish shyt and the tank gets dirty, that's where all the maintenance comes from. With plants, just have to drop in plant pellets every now and then if you don't have fish.

Also, make sure you put your light on one of those timers. Plants need a normal day-night cycle too.

I know someone mentioned lizards. My boy got two geckos for breeding. The girl is pregnant at the moment. Seems like a nice little hustle.

As far as aquariums, I don't have one. But I always did that if I were to or do become rich, then I would want to get a shark tank like all the rappers and celebrities on mtv cribs.

I do love watching the show Tanked. It's on Netflix if anyone wants to check it out. They got some nice ass tanks they make on there.

I had a South America cichlid themed tank man all aggressive I loved it 55 gallons

Mini shell dwellers tank

Salt water is expensive

If you get into it its fun but I garuntee your gonna always go bigger
I posted my old setup in a thread last year. Had a 250 gallon South American cichlid tank. Had to give it up when I moved across the country though. :mjcry:

Getting a bunch of rosy red feeder fish and dropping them in the tank with those monsters was always entertaining.

@Dolla$ if you really want a tank, do some research beforehand. There's gonna be maintenance involved, but once you get the tank setup, the main things are water changes (I did them weekly to give the fish the best quality water, you can get by doing it every two weeks or so) and obviously feeding. Most of the costs will come with the initial setup:

Tank
Filter
Fish
Gravel or sand
Decorations
Food
Heater
Something to pump oxygen into the water

Decide how big of a tank you want, then look into what fish will grow into that tank. For instance, don't get a 20 gallon tank and buy an Oscar. It'll be small enough at first, but it'll quickly out-grow that aquarium. Don't let anyone tell you fish grow to the size of the tank. That's bullshyt. They're gonna grow to what they're gonna grow no matter what. If the tank is too small, they'll be deformed and miserable.

You want to make sure your fish are relatively compatible. Go for similar temperaments. If you like a couple mild fish, go all mild. If you like aggressive fish, don't put any mild ones in with them because they'll get tormented. You need adequate space for aggressive fish too so they can have their own area of the tank.

An overlooked aspect for most people is probably water temperature. Make sure all the fish you get live in a similar temperature zone. Some fish like cooler water, some need warmer water. You want to change your filters on a somewhat regular basis too. Those are the things that clean the water a little bit, but also provide the tank with bacteria that water in the nature has that tap water doesn't.

Bump.

I own a 260L sized aquarium and have no problems with maintenance.

It's only a money draining hobby if you're not doing it correctly. I have the Fluval 406 filter (was thinking of upgrading to the FX4 but I don't need it) running with biohome ultimate media.

Biohome ultimate media is the GOAT. After doing my research, I purchased it and replaced it with all the original media when I redid my tank and I can already see the difference. I don't have to do as many water changes and the water is damn near crystal clear even after nearly two weeks of not doing water changes. The fish are happy and breeding in the tank and I keep my feeding to a minimal. Don't feed your fish two to three times a day. That's bullshyt and only messes up the tank. Once a day or even once every other day will suffice. Overfeeding your fish is what messes everything up and just causes infestation of snails and more water changes.

I got mollies, guppies, loaches and suckerfish and maybe tomorrow I'm going to get some African dwarf frogs.

Speaking of water changes....get something like the Python aquarium hose. After using this I can never go back to doing water changes with buckets again.
