I like Steichen enough for now, but these "genius" OC head coach prospects are a dime a dozen and NFL churns through coaches. And you're right we have no reason to trust him to develop the next QB.
No. It's to continue to give him reps. We know he's not good now but also very inexperienced.
Worst case he crashes out and Indy gets a better pick. Best case Indy is competitive which is OK because at least you have something to build on.
Calling him all time bad, and saying Indy will lose out with him is an extreme take.
This. Basically my entire point
With Flacco you know there's a ceiling and there's a floor. So he's not gonna be bad enough to get you a top pick to actually draft a QB for the future and he's not good enough to win you a SB unless you an elite roster, which the Colts are not even close to having right now.
At least with Richardson, best case scenario, he figures it out and becomes a star. Worst case scenario, he continues to suck and you bottom out and you get a chance to draft your next future QB. Middle case, he's "okay", but at least with that, you can still build on that for the future and hope he still becomes a top line QB or trade him to a team and get some draft capital that you may can package to draft your QB down the line.
I'm just struggling to see the benefit of having Flacco be QB1 for a team like the Colts. If you just want to be respectable but not a serious threat at a ring, then hey, cool I guess.
