Poverty+a culture that shames the poor and glorifies the rich+unemployed or underemployed parents+ discrimination in housing and employment+ underfunding of schools and underpaid teachers= this.

Blaming hip hop absolves the role of racist policies in creating the situation. You think drill music and gangsta rap existed when Malcolm X and Co would spin the block? You think the original crips and bloods were inspired to go out and shoot, stab or box their opps because of James brown or jimi hendrix? Crime exists based off of material realities that people live with.

Ain't no gangs running around in suburbia riding out to riddle Tyler, Connor or makayden with bullets but they're out here buying most of these albums and merchandise. They're out there posted up in the concert singing along to the songs and bumping that shyt in the locker rooms before a game. Black people aren't the only ones making violent hip hop profitable, and it's illogical to assume that it has a unique effect on our young but yet somehow white youth aren't doing this in their neighborhoods.

White kids don’t identify with it tho. To them it really is being entertained by a group they view as merely Jesters. This is a sin problem at the end of the day. A decent amount of these rappers aren’t even starving, so to kill your brother (one of your own kind), can only have a true root problem, beyond just blaming “the man“. Coddling our community is one of the main issues. It’s always someone elses fault.

Conflating school shootings/mass shootings with street shooting is lazy

First, ‘gUn cOnTroL’ doesn’t answer the question of WHY someone would want to shoot up an elementary school. So in that case, mental health and violence culture is the root cause, not the guns. I’m not NOT shooting up a school bc I cant a gun. I’m not shooting up a school bc I have no impulse to do so

Now gun control and limiting if not banning automatic weapons HELPS, but it’s not the cure.

Back to street shooting. We’re never abolishing the 2nd amendment. So people will always have the right to bear arms and if that exists they will always be able to get their hands on an illegal (or legal!) handgun.

So people who blankety say ‘gUn CoNtRol’ in the context of street level shootings have no clue what they’re talking about. It’s like thinking prohibition would eliminate all alcohol from circulation. ‘Gun control’ is what’s needed to eliminate automatic weapons that can kill masses.
