That’s kind of the conclusion I was drawing to but the scene in the hole and that whole interpretive dance scene has thrown me right off.

the original Lena went down in the hole to destroy the tower, best she could do at that point :manny:. either that or she was manifested into an alien herself due to the DNA manipulation, they all were messed up in some sort of way.

Not my bag, visuals were cool and it had some tense scenes but the pacing was a struggle. There were no real likeable characters or actors even aside from jennifer jason lee and janes a virgin chica.

I remember when that HBO special show me a hero aired and everyone swore Isaac had next. Its amazing what can happen when you you are such a poor chooser of scripts. Dude has no juice now. Next pacino? :mjlol:He'll be lucky if hes the next anthony lapaglia.

Ps did they really need to throw in the plot point where shes sleeping with the black (and then the roles are reversed for female empowerment purposes ) and hes made the bytch for her to throw him out after hes serviced her.:martin:

WHY DID NATALIE PORTMAN HAVE THAT SPANISH GIRLS INFINITY TATTOO AT THE END OF THE MOVIE?

From the moment they stepped into the shimmer their DNA started to mix and evolve amongst each other. Jane the Virgin, Natalie Portman and the solider in the video who they sliced open all had the tattoo.

Long story short Lena in the lab being interviewed was an unreliable narrator and that's not actually her, it's the alien disguised as her. Just like her husband was just a copy.

At least that's what I got out of it.:manny:

Fred.

I interpreted it as Lena is 50% human, 50% alien because her DNA got so intertwined while she was in the Shimmer. She's not a full clone like Kane but I think at a certain point it didn't matter because she's got enough alien in her plus the other people's DNA who were also in the Shimmer and that's proven by the tattoo she developed on her arm.

The interpretation that Natalie is a clone and unreliable narrator would render the entire movie a waste of time to me. There are times when an unreliable narrator works but not with a film that so heavily relies on allegory and mystery. If I can't read into anything that was presented then it's all pointless to analyze.

And her being a clone doesn't jive with how Oscar Isaac's clone behaved. He came to her almost empty headed, just remembering her face and the barest of details about the person he was birthed from. But we're supposed to believe the Portman clone is ultra sophisticated and clever enough to weave a web of lies to trick her captors?

Her clone allowing itself to die doesn't seem out of place to me. It's established that Portman self destructs in her life. Burns down everything around her, so to speak. And that aspect of her personality was what imprinted on the clone.

I roll with the interpretation that the shimmer and whatever evolves from it isn't malevolent or a thinking being with desires. It is basically just a cosmic cancer that replicates and changes already existing cells. So when it created the Portman clone, it took on one of her flaws as a person, self destruction.

I believe Portman's character (Lena was her name I think?) is a deeply modified version of herself by the end of the film, having absorbed characteristics at the cellular level from various people and things that was inside the shimmer. She's no longer herself, she's something new. Now I believe SHE could have been lying about how much she knows, there was a lot of "I don't know" in there, but I don't believe Lena died and the being sitting inside the quarantine is a simple clone of her.

When they ask each other are they who they were, he admits that he isn't. He is a clone but she is something more than a clone. She is herself, changed, with the shimmer still inside of her.

Wow, this was worded beautifully.

Questions if anyone has answers:

What was with the time lapse in the beginning when they entered the shimmer? I can see time moving fast as they moved deeper, but to lose it with no memory is :patrice:, especially for that moment only.

How did 2 of the 5 become one with the environment so quick? I'm guessing JJL's character's cancer might have had a play with her?

Regarding Lena:

Why are people saying real Lena is dead? Did you not see the clone survive a grenade blast for several minutes? :gucci:

Plus she had memory of everything that happened, while Oscar's character didn't.

I'm an hour into this and bored stiff about to turn off. Not seeing the hype.

It's a dope concept, cool movie but it's boring as fukk and the pacing was terrible

It's not a bad movie by any means but I was just expecting a lot more and was disappointed when the film ended

Still worth watching
