But if you're talking about why AA moved from neighborhoods like South LA and Watts and Compton and Inglewood into neighborhoods like San Bernardino and Riverside and the Inland Empire in general, then YES, gang violence (including Hispanic gangs but mostly just whatever gangs were operating on and near their own blocks) is a main reason. Housing prices are the other reason, especially for folk who actually wanted to buy their own place and not rent anymore.

AFAIK damn near everyone left construction for the same reason - workload was too unstable to support a family. Black, Brown, and White people all left the field when the housing collapse in 2007 followed by the economic downturn and 5-6 years of hardly any new building projects at all proved that construction was a shytty way to make a stable living.
