:lupe:

this is my first time even hearing about this?

I guess this takes place before Black people existed.

I'm really starting to get fed up with this shyt.

:wow:

If you are annoyed, start supporting legit black films like Great Debaters; Daddy's Little Girls, Free Angela Davis, Hidden Colors, etc when they come out.
Trust these movies will continue to come out, if you want a positive alternative, then it's crucial to support the few legit black films that come out.

I support Black filmmakers who make films that are in our best interest.

I do not support Tyler Perry under any circumstances based on his past work.

Breh, yes these guys are artists, but they also have to make money in order to do more positive films.
Daddy's Little Girls and Mr. Deeds were Perry's lowest grossing films. On a daily basis, other groups of people make a killing off us and they can give two shyts about us, yet extra scrutiny is placed on Perry and others off little things.

What's Perry supposed to do? Keep making positive films that make no money, or cater to the people who support him and make Madea or House of Payne?
Even if you take Perry out of the equation, you still had a number of legit black films made this year like Free Angela Davis; Fruit-vale Station, and Peeples. Hell people begged black folks to see Red Tails, yet it flopped, until we support these films COLLECTIVELY you will never see your Ancient Egypt; Moors, or Haitian Revolution type movies.

with that logic we can also support our local crack dealers if they promise to donate some of their proceeds to the community center we're trying to build.

there are other Blacks selling plates of food and nice knitted sweaters, but it's not selling as well as crack, so lets just support crack collectively or we'll never get that community center built.

So you're going to compare Tyler's movies to crack dealers?
Even if you wanted to play that game, the reason why dealers deal and Tyler makes Madea movies, is because their aren't that many alternatives.
If the community came up with businesses or other ways to how that dealer employed, then he wouldn't deal. As far as Tyler, no one supports his positive films, so he caters to his audience and makes a Madea movie.

Now let me ask you this, if you're Tyler what would you do, make another Madea movie or Mr.Deeds? Keep in mind, you may barely break even with Mr. Deeds, while you'll easily make a profit with a Madea movie.

and there we have it, profit is more important than integrity.

You're dancing around every point I make, so I will make two more statements in response to you.

1. Now let me ask you this, if you're Tyler what would you do, make another Madea movie or Mr.Deeds? Keep in mind, you may barely break even with Mr. Deeds, while you'll easily make a profit with a Madea movie.

2. Of the last five years, how many positive black films did you see in theaters/purchase LEGALLY digitally or through DVD? Did you go see Red Tails; Great Debaters, Free Angela Davis, or any of the Hidden Colors Films? None of these films were by Tyler Perry, and all were based on historical events.

IMO the reason Tyler Perry's "positive" films aren't lucrative at the box office is bcuz they're boring. Either that or they have this straight to DVD type feel or made for TV vibe. If he could make a movie that's entertaining without it relying on shukkin an jivin for two hours the shyt would get supported all races. I'm not dropping $100.00 to take my fam to the theatre just to "support" Tyler Perry's "When A Brotha Does The Right Thing" when Avengers 2 is playin across the hall. fukk that.

...and lets be for real, Red Tails flopped bcuz it was a garbage movie. Just bcuz it's an A-list black cast doesn't equal it's automatically good

Ok, but what about Akeelah and the Bee, that was a well produced movie, yet it only made $18 million? Or better yet Miracle at St. Anna?

I know you're not talking to me, but I just wanted to point out that there are those of us out here that support black films. And as dumb as this may sound to some of you guys, black films are the only films I support these days (just preorded fruitvale station a couple days ago on amazon).

ALL of Tyler Perry films are in the green when it comes to his films. He always budgets films in the teens to 20 million dollar range, they make their money back, plus profit and that's not even counting DVD sales. I want that nicca as far away from a film about ancient Egypt as possible. Shame is, he is the only black film maker who probably has the pull to do it.

I haven't seen either one of those so I cant comment. however, I heard miracle at st. anna was garbage too. all that hype surrounding it before it came out because spike was directing it so not only was it a WW2 film with nikkaz acting in it but spike directing was supposed to give it extra credibility and it still flopped. And i'll bet it flopped NOT because black folks didn't support it but because word on the street was "don't go see that shyt because I SAW IT and its garbage"

lets take The Best Man for example. That's a "black movie" and its a good movie.thats why it made money. made so much money they did a sequel. There are a lot of black films (in front/behind camera) that are good and do good financially as a result but the ones that aren't doing good money wise cant be blamed on lack of support from the community. I don't buy that at all.

that's cool. aint nothing wrong with that and I admire you for sacrificing being entertained for the sake of fattening the pockets of potentially lame ass black film makers. I just cant do it. This is America. If you sellin smthn good im buyin.

like if you hav a lemonade stand on one side of the street and a cac got one across the street and yall sellin them same price but your lemonade tastes like piss you can :camby:with that support black businesses shyt.

Sidbebar, I'm surprise we haven't got a epic Greek Mythology flick yet:yeshrug:
they gave us immortals and the Titans movies but those were meh at best so I can see not counting them. iirc, there's action-super explosion blockbuster movie about Egypt that's gonna have Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) and Gerard Butler in it and when I saw the news I just shook my head and quit the internet for the day. We'll never have movies like that because the pockets that run hollywood have to keep the folks that spend money (and the folks that make money) on their movies happy. The only issue with that is that EVERYONE spends money on movies and the suits in hollywood haven't seemed to realize that yet.
