Crazy. Some of you guys are not that far removed from the continent :ohhh:

200 years is nothing.

It is actually within 200 years so that is actually less than 200 years. .

I did further testing with African Ancestry and they finally nailed down my mother's and father's actual tribes. My results for my mother always showed Mandingo from Mali and in some cases Sierra Leone. African Ancestry actually nailed down that my mother's maternal line is Mende from Sierra Leone; and of course the Mende are related to the Mandingos, which is why I was getting those results for the haplogroup L2c.

My father's results according to African Ancestry are for the Bissa (sometimes called Busanga or Busani), who live in south-central Burkina Faso. The haplogroup is em263.2 and they are from the Mande ethnic out of Mali just like the Mende that my mother belonged too. l looked up the Bissa and I found out that they also live in northeastern Ghana and they have small pockets in northern Togo and Benin; which explains why Ghana showed up on the 23andMe. It also explains why Ancestry DNA gave me such high results for Ivory Coast and Ghana and lesser, but noticeable results for Togo and Benin.

Have you found any distant African relatives on 23andme and other platforms? :ohhh:

Still digging on 23andme. However, on AncestryDNA I found a lady from Senegal and another lady from Mali that are the 5th to 8th cousins of me and my mother. I think that lady from Senegal immigrated to Georgia and the other lady I think is in NYC.

Fwiw, I traveled to Sierra Leone in March to visit Bunce Island. I didn't know at the time that my mother's ethnic was Mende, because her haplogroup had only been associated with the Mandingos in the materials that I read; in retrospect it actually makes sense because Mende and Mandingos are related. I hope to get back to Sierra Leone and over to Ghana later this year or early next year.

i'm pretty sure i've mentioned i have Chinese ancestry on here before
There's mad Chinese in Jamaica i know, i got some in my family

to be fair i do have recent chinese ancestry

I'm actually 1/8th Chinese

Through my dad's side
Afro/Chinese Jamaican :yeshrug:

Lol facts

I'd like to go to China but I honestly don't care about "finding family" :pachaha:
I look like a regular breh so I never bring up I got Asian ancestry anyway:pachaha:

its not uncommon for people of Jamaican origin/ancestry to be mixed with Chinese or Indian.
Tyson Beckford, Naomi Campbel, Supa Dupa, Walshy Fire, Michael Lee Chin, Sean Paul, Ayesha Curry, Kyle Anderson etc. are all Jamaicans of African and Chinese ancestry
