Long and the Short, I know 7th and 8th graders who cant tell time on a clock...... What she talking about aint to far off.

My first year in teaching, I tried to get a classroom full of a 14 & 15 year olds to do a simple exercise by addressing an envelope properly. Didn't have to write a letter or anything. Just mailing address where it goes, return address where it goes. This exercise began around 11:10 am.

By noon my TA & I were puff-puff-passing in his car during lunch to get through the remainder of the day after all of the teeth we had to pull just to get through the prior 45 minutes.

Teaching idiots who came from idiot parents that produced idiot gametes ain't fun whatsoever.

If anything said was true, fukk them kids.

How you not know the name of the parent you live with.

Their address. You don't belong in college. UPS is hiring, so is the military.

I grew up with crackbabies who knew that shyt. The type who couldn't read without saying the words out loud and needed a pointer to keep track of the sentence.

You can’t even really be stupid I’m the military, especially combat arms (excluding 13B’s).

We made it a point to grind our idiots down to nothing and/or try like hell to ge them out. Infantrymen, combat engineers, and scouts have to be pretty damn intelligent to do what they do, considering the array of equipment, calculation, planning, measurement, discernment, navigation, fire adjusting, Operating systems, etc. They’re only allowed to be stupid off the clock.

Truck drivers, MP’s, and cooks sometimes get a pass.

you saying "fukk them kids" but those parents probably did just that and now look where we ended up
I meant it from the pov of the teacher. I'm not a teacher, but I can't see myself stressing out over a flower that's struggling to grow, on the other side of the dessert. Save who you can.

It's a tough spot to be in for a male teacher.

If a male teacher attempts to give discipline a boy or young man needs he may experience pushback from single mothers who want to shield their son from discipline from a male figure because of their own personal beefs.

I can see how this would make a teacher just throw their hands up.

Not only the parent(s), but also fellow teachers and especially administrators. The last remaining area where male energy and discipline, the last arena of meritocracy left, is sports. And even that is being assailed like you wouldn't believe.

Respect due to the fellas who are toughing it out and have to jump through the hoops just to reach these children.

This what happens when you stick a screen in front of kids all day while they growing up and don't teach them bare bones information that they should know. I noticed this too a while back. I've run into a few that don't know their address or directions on how to get to their houses, don't know their SSN, don't know how to read a clock, now not knowing their mother's last name is a new one :ohhh:.
I mean negative survival skills regarding how to function as a young adult and not taught shyt if it isn't on their timeline or group chat. Some sad shyt indeed.

Being in high school and not knowing your mothers last name or your home address is majorly concerning.
I think the kids may have been confused by the last name thing. A mother can have two last names: married name and maiden name.

Not being able to read a clock has been a problem for at least 10 years now and these smart/apple watches don't help since they show time in digital form. I personally wear a watch with no numbers and actually look at it for time every since a professor called me out for pulling my phone out to look at the time:sadcam:. Meanwhile, there were students who were on their phones the entire class and they even thought it was weird for him to do that:what:. He was a cac with a crush on one of the girls who would always give me googly eyes.:lolbron:

My name is daddy to my kids, ain't a thing wrong with that up to adulthood. My wife calls me by my name and my kids ask her why she calling me that
She means last name...since Dad and Mom never married. Dad is Smith, Child is smith, but Momma got a different last name.

I found her playing with toys to be very distracting, generally, but also specifically taking away from her message.

I honestly dont remember if I knew my address off top of my head, that zipcode can get tough:francis:

One thing I know for certain,if I did know my address back then, I wouldnt have known it if a teacher was asking for it. What exactly are you trying to send home to my mama? Are you stopping by to visit:comeon:?

A friend of mine teaches at his alma mater in VA. It’s basically a predominantly black high school.

So he gives them a test. But….

He lets them take the test home on Friday. They bring it back Monday so he can grade it. Almost half the class still failed. 5 didn’t even bring it in on Monday.
shyt I’ve got seniors who:
Don’t know when Independence Day was
Who was the first president
Instruct them to write 5 sentences and they still write a short fragment that makes no sense

One student tried to blame Black people for slavery and said we deserved Jim Crow discrimination

Can’t solve basic word problems

Spend more time memorizing the answers to a test that their friends post on instagram not realizing I give out 6 versions of the same test to cut down on the cheating. For example I will ask what movement was the age of reason (the enlightenment), and these mf’s will answer George Washington. Not even reading the test just marking shyt.

Some, not all, don’t give a fukk to even try and watching that failure in real time is a tough pill to swallow.

Crazy. Teaching has given women an outlet to teach/reach boys in the way that's been disastrous for them alone, in the home while turning young ladies into little lions. Fathers in the home really have to be on top of their responsibilities
