All Thats Good Within Thee World
Very much so. But why the obfuscation?
Basically, if you go the normal route and major in an education program in undergrad and grad school, the school does everything for you. The state trusts the school so they automatically grant you a teaching license. If you don't go that route you have to take a bunch of classes and get a bunch of certs which you pay for out of pocket. I'm sure it's not as complex but for somebody doing it alone with no advisor it gets overwhelming.

Just like what Rich Paul went through when he was trying to become a sports agent...nobody will advise you even a little. Including your own people and the education world is not that competitive and does not have a lot of money on the line like the sports world. It's just that people, mainly men, especially Black men have a chip on their shoulder/air of superiority.

The only man who would have helped me if I made a stern decision was a white dude. I had the chance but lacked proper guidance. If I made the right decision back then I would have been 3 years into that career and probably on track to be vice principal. Those 3 years done came and went and I have nothing to show for it. I guess you gotta learn to live with regrets.

This is a conversation that a lot of parents don’t want to have. Parenting used to be about preparing your child for the world, passing on knowledge and skills, letting them learn from their mistakes and those of others and starting them in life where your knowledge stopped so they can add on and do better than you did or take it farther.

Today parenting is basically keeping your kid distracted so they don’t bother you and defending them when they’re wrong, so they never learn from their mistakes.

Not to mention this key component…

:francis:

I know some VERY successful and intelligent young people under 21 who had good parenting and then I know some others who are way lost in the sauce. It’s crazy how many kids can’t do basic things these days. Sad actually.

Her condescending aura is a huge issue.

These are kids, teenagers, they’re often shallow and don’t shyt outside their teenage bubble.

The field does need more men but who is willing?
It's a tough spot to be in for a male teacher.

If a male teacher attempts to give discipline a boy or young man needs he may experience pushback from single mothers who want to shield their son from discipline from a male figure because of their own personal beefs.

I can see how this would make a teacher just throw their hands up.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
A friend of mine teaches at his alma mater in VA. It’s basically a predominantly black high school.

So he gives them a test. But….

He lets them take the test home on Friday. They bring it back Monday so he can grade it. Almost half the class still failed. 5 didn’t even bring it in on Monday.

You're in high school and don't know your parents' name nor your home address?

Yeah, you're a fukkin' dullard who deserves to be looked at like :leostare: by most of society.

This what happens when you stick a screen in front of kids all day while they growing up and don't teach them bare bones information that they should know. I noticed this too a while back. I've run into a few that don't know their address or directions on how to get to their houses, don't know their SSN, don't know how to read a clock, now not knowing their mother's last name is a new one :ohhh:.
I mean negative survival skills regarding how to function as a young adult and not taught shyt if it isn't on their timeline or group chat. Some sad shyt indeed.
