Americans of the Coli, the Olympics draw near, so allow me to propose a wager...

I've been reading a lot of reckless talk around these parts about how America is the greatest sporting nation on earth, both outright and pound for pound.

Now we don't want this thread to descend in to one of those boring "if amuuuuricans plaid sawker wed be an dominational forse" so let's keep this strictly Olympics.

The terms of this wager are that Team GB() will win more medals(be it gold, silver or bronze) in relation to our population size than Team USA() will in relation to theirs. Therefore making Great Britain(), a pound for pound greater Olympic(and sporting) nation than the USA.


(Statistics taken from wikipedia)

Great Britain(& Northern Ireland) Population = 62,262,000
USA Population = 313,882,000

So in order for whoever is man enough to take this bet to win, Team USA must win 5.04(...) times more medals than Team GB.

The loser(or losers) must leave the Coli.

Who among you is man enough to back up their big talk and take this bet?

There are a ton of reasons this doesnt work, but let me just give you one....a single person can win multiple Olymic medals. This throws off the whole ratio of medals to population right from the start.

Another reason is that the US won a total of 110 medals in 2008, compared to GB's 47. A better bet would be whether we can double you up again. TS, make that bet...or are you chicken?

(Or to actually make a legitimate and fair bet, do 60+/- US medal count advantage.)
