Every company just has to reset.

AMC needs to transition into more of an Alamo Drafthouse situation PLUS become their own movie producer.......or just get bought out by netflix and allow netflix members to attend for free and pay for cost of food and drinks.

Yup can see us going right back to the days of studios owning theaters

Disney will save the movie business

I can see Disney buying the franchise.

I don't buy it. It didn't kill the music industry. Just need to figure out a model.

I cherish theaters though they are my sanctuary

The streaming music industry isn't exactly thriving and there's no comparable 360 model to compensate the film studios either. Artists and producers can let the music be a loss leader and find others ways to be compensated. I don't know what model works in the movie industry to be compensated adequately if everything goes streaming, not to mention the plethora of services we would have to have to make access to an equivalent amount of content that we have now.

It's not so much about preserving the status quo, it's that if the current system changes, there will be a collapse in the quality of content. No more big summer blockbusters. Which I'm sure some people will be ok with, but I enjoy the variety we have now. The system isn't perfect by any stretch, but it's better than whats potentially is shaping up to happen.

Dude that’s gonna suck, part of seeing movies in the theater is the experience of it, people without a 60+ inch. And surround sound gonna take an L on that front.
watchin at the crib > watching with some a$$holes talkin, on the phone and who damn sure aint tall as me but somehow still managing to kick my chair intermittently over 2 hours

After years of overcharging for popcorn and drinks...

The reason the snacks and drinks are priced that way is because theaters make very little money off ticket sales. Most of the box office money goes to the movie studios. The only way theaters can make money is off of food and drinks.

Oh I smuggle in my fair share pf snacks as well. I'm just saying that you can't look at them overpricing food and drinks as them trying to rip-off their customers. Theaters have to price snacks high because that's the only way they can turn a profit.

I really hope AMC makes it out, in my area, AMC theaters are head and shoulders above Regal and any other movie chain. The AMC's here have better seats, Dolby Cinema > IMAX, and their food is actually better to me. I love their chilli dogs, and fried shrimp at the AMC dine-in are restaurant quality.

Yup. And studios are always trying to make more of the percentage and threatening to not show their movies if they don't give in. I don't cop any snacks when I go to a regular theater but I feel for everyone involved, whether its the customers paying all the money or the theaters who are put in that position to begin with. the more money studios spend to make movies, which are getting more and more expensive to produce each year, the more of a percentage theyll want on the grosses. That leaves theater owners, especially the smaller ones, in a real crunch.

Streaming music services’ share of total music revenues is bigger than ever. According to a year-end report from the RIAA, revenues from streaming services grew nearly 20% in 2019 to $8.8 billion, accounting for 79.5% of all recorded music revenues

Counterpoint believes that global music subscriptions will grow more than 25% in 2020, with numbers exceeding 450 million paid subscribers by the end of the year
