As incredible as it sounds, and not knowing too much, I have to say it was an accident. A very GOOFY accident but one nonetheless.
Now, she will or at least should STILL go to prison! As an officer you own each bullet fired from your gun. Even if you're in an actual felony, armed and dangerous shooting. If your bullet strikes a innocent bystander that's your ass!
How it should go is, even though it was a error, her handling of someone in her perceived apartment was wrong. Even as a police you can't shoot someone unless you can prove ability and opportunity for them to do you deadly harm. Shooting soon as you see them doesn't qualify.
Then again....scratch all this. This is Texas and threshold for a officer is different.

agree with this post, i think it was an accident too but she still handled it all types of wrong
the first thing that should be done is hold the possible intruder at gunpoint and ask em wtf they doing in your crib, not shoot first and ask questions later and as an officer she should've knew that
i also think she was definitely under the influence of something, the fact they ain't release the toxicology is suspicious as hell
