Am I the only person who can't get into James Bond 007 movies?

Yeah me and the kid might check it out when we aint got nothing else to do and after he gets over his Ant-Man high.
He really ain't feeling Cruise much nowadays and I kind of agree. He just seems desperate to stay relevant.

His mission impossible movies always do it for me breh..minus the 2nd one. And Edge of Tomorrow was piff

I agree with the OP. I could never really get into these movies. Dry British humor and polite action scenes just dont do it for me. The soundtracks are nice as hell though.

I feel that but they aren't making those type of jokes anymore breh lol. and the new ones have rarely used CGI..Die Another Day is the one in the series that uses the most CGI but before then and since then, it's been sans CGI for the most part unless it was absolutely necessary.

And yeah they haven't made those type of terrible puns since the Brosnan era and that's a terrible flick for the most part anyway

I saw Casino Royale in the cinema and enjoyed it more than any other James Bond movie I could remember, to be fair... it's just not really my type of movie... the thing that kept coming to mind during that one was why is James Bond seen as such a special character that he's worth 24 movies? You can switch up the actor to give it some new life and you can reboot to try and make him "realer" in Casino Royale etc, but is he really such an amazing character that we need to bend over backwards to crowbar him into a modern world where he doesn't really fit anymore rather than just making a new character/franchise that does? During the Cold War the whole attitude of Bond movies made perfect sense... but now? In 2015? I'll binge watch a new series of The Americans or Homeland before I give in and let the brehs drag me to see James Bond's latest car chase.

But anyway... opinions, a$$holes etc.. I'm definitely a minority on this. Enjoy the new one, fam.

I think he can be bent to any era for real. i mean in the books, he's a WW2 era guy more so than a cold war guy. and in the age of "the war on terror" and non state actors, it makes sense. Part of my thesis for grad school was about the bond series and how it changes to reflect the politics of the times and the argument you just said is really the same argument they had in Skyfall

Yeah that second one is complete :trash:

Haven't seen EoT yet. I don't hate Tom but he gives off an annoying vibe to me. :manny:
edge of tomorrow is fukking AWESOME. Tom is actually, from all the stories I've heard an extremely down to earth and nice guy. He saw a pedestrian get hit by a car in a hit and run, called an ambulance, followed the ambulance to the hospital and paid the persons 7000$ medical bill. All of the crew that work on films with him say he pays for all their lunches and helps them in any way he can, plus he does all of his own stunts. Dude is the epitome of a movie star, he carries every movie he is in with his performances.

Don't forget Goldfinger breh..and A View to A Kill

You'd rank The world is not enough above Goldeneye breh? :isthatall:
Yes, goldeneye was great when it came out but didn't age too well. The World is not enough is the best brosnan Bond in my opinion.

I think the world is not enough is his best performance but goldeneye is his best film. the world is not enough has too many flat spots...along with denise richards

That's beautiful if he's done that.
I've also heard otherwise contrary about him but that can go for any actor/actress in Hollywood.
Like I said, I don't hate him. He just gives off that short man complex, control freak vibe to me.
But if what you wrote is true, props to him...:francis:

Fair play - can't argue with any of that, I just question whether we ever really needed him to be bent - I guess the heritage of the brand (or baggage depending on your outlook) can push people either way.

Unless a character/world is genuinely stand-out I would usually prefer a new "universe" for a new story over re-using an old one... I can't think of many single characters I'd like to see take the lead in 24 feature films over 50 years tbh because the natural result is this half-way house sort of continuity... different writers, different actors, loose ends left loose... I much prefer the modern-TV idea of doing a similar amount of screen-time in a few years to tell a genuinely long, complex story and really dig into the characters.
