Actually no one cared until chris rock's documentary came out along with the talk shows. As well as tommy sotomayor's rise to popularity.
It just proves how sheepish black folks can be these days. If no one would have called out weaves they never would of cared.
this is bullshyt

you think that chris rock hair documentary or sotomayor rants came out of thin air? these are topics that have been discussed online for the better part of half a decade.

Dating to hair!? Wow. I will say from the BWs I've witnessed is BW have an inferiority complex against other cultures and within themselves. Meaning BW tend to play catch up instead of taking a lead. BW own the eccentric hairdo lane, though.

At the beginning of mean streets
On another note when did black women wearing weaves that are not their texture symbolizes self hate. I would think the point of wearing weaves is to rock hairstyles that could cause damage to your own hair. A black women constantly straightening hair to for example get the Farrah fawcett flips would cause heat damage. I would say some bw use weaves as a crutch because they find their own hair undesirable or hard to manage.

Lemme play the devil's advocate here and say because the weave they typically wear look ridiculous and don't be matchin their actual hair texture. If a chick wore afro-textured weaves you think these nikkas could tell? And plus, how does a Brazilian/Peruvian/Indian weave help protect your natural hair? What kind of weaves we talkin for protective stylin?

What has the response been when asked why they cut their hair and brush it to death with oil slick concoctions? Not every black guy on here is wearing locks or afros. :lupe:

Are u seriously gonna compare a black dude brushing his hair to a BW wearing weave, like that's the same thing? :snoop:

Do u know how many nikkaz rock nappy fros, dreds down their backs and cornrows?

I wouldn't really care. Do what you want. I actually think you should date out. :id:

3iehgdfuvxbubnjudfnf! i was speaking in general, not personally. i don't even think most black women care if nikkas date out anymore -- unless they're celebrities!

Lol, girl I have seen. How the hair you're going to speak about bw hair but haven't educated yourself on the topic. They don't really having any insight just go off some of the shyt they see and what they think. I guess they aren't as logical as they think are. Yeah some use it as a crutch but some of us use as a protective style to achieve looks that can hurt our hair in the long run.

Maybe it's just the city I live in but I can honestly say that I've never seen a ridiculous weave in person. I've only seen the pictures that people post online. Most of the women with weave that I see, I can tell it's weave but it looks good. :yeshrug: and I see women with kinky/curly weave ALL the time.

Clearly they can't tell because they always post "natural haired" women, but many of the pictures are weave.

You are wasting your breath; no one will believe you (although I feel you). I wore my straight half wig this summer for a bday weekend in Miami. I didn't want to deal with my hair everyday and I refused to flatiron for one event/weekend.

Many men also ASSume that black women only wear straight weaves, but many of them just can't tell when a black woman is wearing a kinky weave. Another instance of me wearing a weave/wig was in August when I went to New York for a 4-day conference. I wore my kinky/curly half-wig because I wanted to look nice without having to do my hair everyday/travel with a bunch of tools and products.

To the last bolded part, I agree.

I use to have the same problem. My hair was thick and it was always a struggle to flat iron. My poor hand would be tired after only flat ironing one section out of four, lol. I have since cut it after rocking a half shaved look for a few months. It takes time to feel comfortable with a shaved head since I never had my hair cut so low. But anyways, I agree wearing a straight weave or a weave of any kind does not mean self hatred. For most of us, it's a little tiresome to continually do our hair for it to a. look good and b. remain healthy

Exactly, or rich. That's when they get hard up like BM that are doing what they suppose to positively go to the hood to find wives.
