JUST IN: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fired back at President Trump after he called on a group of progressive lawmakers to go back to the "crime infested places from which they came," saying that his anger showed he can't conceive of an America that includes elected women of color.

"You know what’s the rub of it all, Mr. President? On top of not accepting an America that elected us, you cannot accept that we don’t fear you, either."

Yo, this is some Bullshid :Ilhan:

Top Democrats are circulating a poll showing that one of the House's most progressive members — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — has become a definitional face for the party with a crucial group of swing voters.

Why it matters: These Democrats are sounding the alarm that swing voters know and dislike socialism, warning it could cost them the House and the presidency. The poll is making the rounds of some of the most influential Democrats in America.

  • "If all voters hear about is AOC, it could put the [House] majority at risk," said a top Democrat who is involved in 2020 congressional races. "She's getting all the news and defining everyone else’s races."

The poll — taken in May, before Speaker Pelosi's latest run-in with AOC and the three other liberal House freshmen known as "The Squad" — included 1,003 likely general-election voters who are white and have two years or less of college education.

    • These are the "white, non-college voters" who embraced Donald Trump in 2016 but are needed by Democrats in swing House districts.
    • The group that took the poll shared the results with Axios on the condition that it not be named, because the group has to work with all parts of the party.
The findings:

    • Ocasio-Cortez was recognized by 74% of voters in the poll; 22% had a favorable view.
    • Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota — another member of The Squad — was recognized by 53% of the voters; 9% (not a typo) had a favorable view.
Socialism was viewed favorably by 18% of the voters and unfavorably by 69%.

    • Capitalism was 56% favorable; 32% unfavorable.
    • "Socialism is toxic to these voters," said the top Democrat.
Between the lines: Dems are performing better with these voters than in 2016 (although still not as well as in 2018). So party leaders will continue to try to define themselves around more mainstream members.

The other side: Three members of The Squad — Omar, Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts — defended their approach while appearing in Philadelphia yesterday on a panel at the annual Netroots Nation conference, AP's Juana Summers reports:

    • "We never need to ask for permission or wait for an invitation to lead," Omar said, adding later that there's a "constant struggle oftentimes with people who have power about sharing that power."

When you're "educated" you tend to work in jobs where you don't actually have to do much. Sitting in an office on Twitter and Instagram all day will give you a different idea of work and life than someone with a blue collar job. Also those jobs usually have low turnover so once good workers get in you work with those same people for decades. Not a lot of diversity of thought.

People who actually work and have been through the ringer understand that there really are some people who are just lazy and untrustworthy. Maybe the first time you meet such a person, you feel bad for them, you empathize with their endless excuses, you even try to do a little extra to cover for them because everyone needs a job.

After about 10 years tho, you've encountered countless people like that, and you get tired of doing twice the work as those people for the same pay. You realize the excuses are just bullshyt and you get tired of being taken advantage of.

That's why "uneducated" people don't support socialism. They've interacted with enough people that The thought of giving up money to take care of able bodied adult women and men just becomes sickening.

Medicare is cool because it takes care of the elderly and children. Medicare for all isnt because you realize you, a healthy person, have to cover the bill for people who refuse to take care of themselves.

Strengthening worker protections, increasing compensation, and actually regulating the price gouging in healthcare would have been more effective.

Socialism is gonna kill the Democrat party

Socialism is government taking over the means of production. You do know the US Government has done that in the past decade-plus with a GOP President? (During 2008 of course)

Trump himself wanted to nationalize the banks in 2008-2009.

No major Dem is calling for that level of government control.

Universla healthcare is popular. Medicare for All is popular. Most Americans do not give a shid about private insurance, they just want to see their doctor and not declare bankruptcy after going to the hospital.

Medicare for all is popular because healthcare is unnaturally high and it's being portrayed as "free", but as soon as taxes increase across the board support will sour.

Right now people are under the impression that taxing the rich will pay for it. But in this global economy, it's easier than ever for rich people to relocate to somewhere more tax friendly.

That first check where the Gov takes more in taxes than they would have spent on healthcare anyway will have people furious. The majority of people only need to see the doc every 6 months or so. Health insurance should be for emergencies like car insurance. Not to be able to afford routine checkups. But both parties are in the back pocket of big pharma.

And as far as government taking over the means of production, just because a Republican did it doesn't mean i think itwas a good idea. Yall really gotta evolve pass the idea that criticism of democrats equals Republican support. The last couple Republican presidencies have been disastrous, with Bush Jr probably being the worst modern era president in history.

The point of Medicare for all is that taxes go up but you ain't paying premiums, deductibles and you have perhaps a small copayment to see a doctor. That's it.

If Canada can do it, we can do it too. Should have been done 40 years ago.

But more important than that, the real cost of healthcare gouging is the drug prices and the hospitals. You can fix that without a national healthcare plan. But for it to last, Medicare needs to have more power across the board to put costs down.
