Yes you play to win but Cam in no way is the reason the Panthers struggled last year tf this cac talking bout?

...and Smith didn't insinuate that he was. At all.

What he said was dead on accurate, despite not being a great source to make the point and using a poor example...

I didn't read it as him saying he was better than Cam anyway....

Didn't he say some shyt like this about Drew Brees last year too?

This.

I don't really think it was Smith's intention to call out Cam Newton as much as he was just using him an example to his point. It's still stupid, but not what most people in this thread are treating as...

...at least as I read it. And obviously, the quote doesn't seem to have been placed in any sort of context anyway.

:yeshrug:

he could have said Matthew Stafford :rudy: yet he picks the premier black athlete

fukk outta here

Smith had a mic in front of him, made a decent point then lost himself for a second and got reckless using Cam as an example. It happens but imo you absolutely should get fried for not measuring your words in front of the media.

They ate up Lebron for 2 summers for the same thing.

He is wrong though. The Panthers weren't getting blown out. They were in most games in the 4th quarter.

But not only that, if his analysis was correct then how sorry is he calling himself? His teams were losing and he couldn't produce half of what Cam was doing. So he clowned himself.

Bottom line is, TEAM success or not, Alex Smith is in no position to try to discredit anyone. He fukking sucks. One decent season and a stupid ass comment won't make us forget that.

Alex has weapons this year too so he better put up or sit the fukk down.

Alex Smith didn't say anything about getting blown out. His exact quote was
This is the honest truth," Smith said. "I could absolutely care less about yards per game. I think that is a totally overblown stat because if you're losing games in the second half, guess what, you're like the Carolina Panthers and you're going no-huddle the entire second half and, yeah, Cam Newton threw for a lot of 300-yard games. That's great. You're not winning, though.

The point he was making is that passing for >300 yards doesn't automatically equal a win. He probably shouldn't have mentioned anybody by name, but it is what it is. What he said wasn't wrong, it just wasn't PC.

I like Cam Newton alot, he is clearly the next great QB in the league, but it's not like what Alex Smith said was necessarily wrong. I think you guys are taking what Alex said too personal, sometimes we are overly quick to defend any criticism of any Black QB whether it's warranted or not.

Most people here and anywhere aren't arguing what he said was wrong they are arguing who said it. Alex Smith is a guy who benefited from a top ranked defense while cam played with a last place defense. It's really comparing apples and oranges stats wise tbh.
