I'm not gonna feel bad for yall struggling on the first boss and complaining about controls like this isn't a horror game intentionally designed to be clunky in order to create suspense and panic :russ:

Get better. There's even a dodge mechanic in this game :dead:

You can always put it on story mode. Its nto like its a combat heavy game you are cheating yourself out of
I hate going down to easy, but I just may. You’re right this isn’t a combat heavy game, so it’s probably not a big deal.

I just need more ammo though. We’ll see tomorrow. I already like the story already, so I want to continue, but I also don’t want to be frustrated doing it the whole time. I like the Twin Peaks vibe.

I have a feeling this game will be like Control for me. I’ll be absolutely pissed off 50% of the time and then love the other 50%. It’s not like I’m bad at games, in general. I’ve beat some hard ass games; It’s just I suck at Remedy games for whatever reason :mjcry:

I think the trick is really getting a hang of the dodge mechanic. Its almost as vital as parry in sekiro, you. Need it to throw them off balance, etc.

this game is lowkey trash. pretty lambo game with a toyota corolla interior, i dont know why people are praising this shyt. no map on the HUD, you have to either keep pushing M on the PC to see the map, or go into another dimension to see the map, to maneuver in another dimension, which you also need a light to maneuver in another dimension. oh and don't die, because the load time is that of a ps3. wtf is going on. im doing more detective work than fighting shadows. shadows which are sporadic. I had to mod this shyt cause he runs like an 80 yr old woman with asthma.

I played Alan Wake remastered yesterday before this game, and it shyts on this by far. This isn't an Alan Wake game, this is something else.

edit: just got to the tunnels with the echos. yea im over this. having to switch back and forth with no map on the screen is mad annoying. when you have to push map more than trigger to get around a game, or when you cant tell which shadow is going to attack while only giving you 2 bandages and 10 bullets, its an L from me.

I even modded it up to ensure I have that thang on me, but I aint even using that thang, Im too busy trying to figure out where the fukk I am.

Would explain why you are having problems with this loop and gameplay style, this is actually exactly how silent hill plays. You get a map, move around the map and used the drawings on the map to find items and progress.

It's intentionally made to be confusing and unreliable, if this game controlled easily, you had a clear "go here" objective marker, and the enemies werent a problem you'd cut right through this game and beat it effortlessly and feel like the game isn't scary or interesting.

I'm not saying that you SHOULD like the game and the decision for it to be built this way but you'll struggle with other games like it, such as silent hill. Great horror games aren't supposed to be easy to play or have great, responsive combat, otherwise it becomes an action game and the horror element is lost.

I'm familiar with horror games such as Evil Within I and II.

this shyt is just ass.

if its trying to be a horror jump scare type of game thus not having a map, still fails cause you can flee the shadows.

There are aspects i really enjoy but other aspects i do not like and the latter is overpowering the stuff i enjoy.

  • Enjoy the mystery with Saga,
  • Love the investigations and talking to people
  • Like the general puzzle solving and exploration
  • Love how ambitious the game feels,
What i don’t love

  • The overall gameplay loop, exposition heavy scenes are hard to keep up with
  • Sometimes it feels like they are being quirky to be quirky, like twin peaks-ish
  • I’m not enjoying the combat, theres a certain level of jank to it im not feeling.
  • …continued: i hate how spongey the enemies are. All they had to do was mimic RE2/RE4, sometimes it takes like 6+ shots to bring down one person
  • Alan’s parts im kind of lost on, and they are fully abstract and meta as hell
My overall thoughts SO FAR, I 100% appreciate what the game is going for and I can see why its a 10/10 GOTY for a lot of people. It hits on a lot of interesting tv/writing tropes, especially the more niche David Lynch type stuff. The graphics are probably the best I’ve seen on console this gen, and there’s a ton of other stuff going for it.

I Just don’t know if its really hittin for me like other people. I’m very hot and cold on it at the moment, and getting colder. I kind of wish the actual Alan Wake aspect of the game didn’t exist and it was just a more spooky true crime game.

That's literally what I love about it, Control had aspects of the weirdness as well, but a lot more action orientated.

I’d probably say this game is a complete inverse of Control. I loved the gameplay of Control but i was less interested in Jesse and the FBC, in this game i don’t really enjoy the gameplay and I’m much more interested in the conspiracy and finding out what people are hiding.

The combat makes me really appreciate what Capcom has been able to do with their remakes feeling tight and precise. Encounters can get tense but i feel equipped to handle them. In this game if i see 3 or more enemies running at me im just immediately annoyed.
