Nah, he did. Telling other groups of people to "get over" a system that technically only ended in the 1960s is disrespectful as hell.
Slavery and neoslavery lasted from the time enslaved got here until AFTER Senegal became independent and free from colonization.
fukk Akon, he is out of pocket with that comment.
Like I wrote earlier, it Akon's comment so he takes responsibility for it, not Senegalese people , Africans, or foreigners. He strikes me as being an uneducated buffoon who doesn't even know the history of his parents' country. He dodged the initial question and sequed into other topics right away. Despite traveling the globe and interacted with people from all walks of life and cultures, Akon still sounds like a person who never left his block. He'd be better off sticking to music topics.A lot of folks don't know black history. They act like we just sat here and watched American history........they read the white man's version of events so they lack context when speaking on ADOS issues. Some Africans and many Latinos (and Asians) have a similar mindset. They look out for #1, and their close family but don't really think big picture. It's why Mexicans are willing to die crossing the desert just to get to America but won't do a damn thing to stop narcotraficantes from ruining their country. They sacrifice to cross the Rio Grande but won't sacrifice to save their own country.
What's funny too is that these folks have all these solutions for us, yet can't stop the Chinese from coming in and raiding all their resources. We're fighting the good fight as 12.9% of the population. They are the overwhelming majority in their own countries and can't get shyt done. Why would us going there change anything? You can't control your own house despite having full "control" yet criticize us for actually getting shyt done in a house we have little control over??
he didnt say anything disresctul.
He has been one of the loudest voices telling Black americans "come to Africa, you are welcome in africa, come live without racism, theres opportunity". Now suddenly alot more Black Americans are visiting the continent seeing things for their own eyes but 10 years ago when he was saying that it sounded crazy to alot of people. His words definitely weren’t coming from a place of contempt, like the thread title suggests
His talking points have been repeated verbatim on the Coli: White people don’t give a damn, they’re not giving you reparations , move past this and come to Africa and you’ll see what life really has to offer
All valid points .
