I don't have Ghostface in my top 10 of all time but he's easily 11 or 12 at this point in his career. Even his so-so albums have had their fair share of gems. He is arguably the most prolific member of the Wu. The dude has an incredible discography, and his story telling and word play are in the same echelon as guys like Slick Rick, Em in his prime and Nas. I honestly think if you don't have him in your top 20 it's kinda disrespectful of dudes legacy, his impact on the game is undeniable at this point.

Top 5. I don't know whether it's his voice, or flow, or whatever but Ghost always almost always sounds like he's really giving a fukk when he raps, not many rappers from any era who's passion comes across in their rap style like that

Without question hes one of the 10 best rappers who has ever done it

@Mephistopheles created perhaps the greatest thread in the history of the booth when he decoded a lot of ghosts rhymes, which to the untrained ear came across as gibberish but were in fact lyrics that were extremely layered and intricate and absolutely brilliant in its esoteric quality. It was a real eye opener for me in how much I've over looked just how amazing he is as an artist.

Great lyricist. Check.
Influence. Check. (see Action Bronson)
Star Power. Check. ("Im bout to save hip hop like Ghost did the Wu")
Quality of Albums. Check. (responsible for two of the greatest albums in hip hop history, and has a catalog that rivals pretty much anyones )

Yeah. His legacy is cemented at this point. He is the best MC from the most critically acclaimed group in hip hop.
100% co sign
is he still the same
everyone has a peak friend
but his legacy is cemented
personally i think sometimes hes a bit bitter he didnt reap the financial success of say a jay/dre/snoop etc

dude is even mad funny ..........who remember the world according to pretty tone

1. Your argument is not based on objectivity. You are making a subjective, personal assessment. You don't seem to understand what objectivity is. Eminem sold X amount of albums is an objective fact. "Eminem is top ____ all time because he sold X amount of records, so-and-so rapper says he's good, blah, blah, blah is a subjective statement based upon criteria selected by the person making the evaluation.

2. There is no objectivity when attempting to value and quantify art. The very act of listening to music is a subjective, aesthetic experience between the artist and the listener.

3. I can't take anyone who says Hammer and Nelly > Ghost seriously in a hip-hop conversation, so there's really nothing left to say.

I stopped responding because
(1) If Mephistopheles is correct and "there is no objectivity when attempting to value and quantify art" then there is ABSOLUTELY NO POINT for this thread to even exist...If the OP thinks that GFK is Top 5 and we can't make a reasonable argument against his opinion, then what's the point in going in circles...? :mjlol:

The OP should have just made a "GFK appreciation thread" if the goal was for the rest of us to just suck GFK's dikk, and not argue against his Top 5 status...:russ:
(2) I am getting neg reps for my OPINION, and to me it is a sign of the childishness of 99.9% of people who participate in internet forums...Most times it is entertaining, but it just reaches a point were a 5 year old just gets annoying and the silliness is not cute any more...That's my queue to :camby:

Do you dispute what he wrote in his first numbered paragraph?

I understand what he wrote, but he clearly doesn't understand what I wrote, but I will take this opportunity to clarify my stance...

(1) I understand ULTIMATELY these threads come down to personal opinion...If someone believes Chief Keef is a better rapper than GFK, then there is just NO objective way of arguing against it...

(2) However, when someone states "GFK is Top 5...Do you agree or disagree" They are asking you to state your opinion, and you can give your opinion and provide a RATIONALE for tour opinion...This were things get INTERESTING...

(3) Some people will base their opinion on EMOTIONS and others (like me) will base it on OBJECTIVE CRITERIA...Therefore, my argument is this...

(4) Which opinion holds the most weight (A) one that is based on emotions or (B) one that is based on objective criteria...?

(5) In conclusion, I am not denying Meth's statement...However, his statement HOLDS NO WEIGHT in this thread, because OP asked us to "agree or disagree"...And I just to disagree based on OBJECTIVE CRITERIA and others are choosing to agree based on EMOTIONS...

(6) Even more interesting, if it is all subjective like Meth's suggests, then why did I get so many Neg Reps for my opinion...If it comes down to opinion, then why do certain members think it necessary to persecute me for having an opinion...? This behaviour is deep and shows us why we have so many wars in world...Religion is NOT blame...If you make a different choice, you will beat down until you make the consensus choice or die...But this a Higher Learning topic...

This is why I love Forums...They show a glimpse of human social politics...:win:

I hope this clarifies my stance

Why do you keep saying EMOTIONS?

You still don't understand. Your opinion is subjective because you are choosing the criteria and what weight to give it.

Here is an example of what you're doing:
Ghostface made 1000 songs. Hammer made 147. Ghostface made more songs. This is an objective fact. Therefore, utilizing objective facts, Ghostface is the better rapper.

Now we've both made our cases using objective facts. Tell me why you're right and I'm wrong. That's where the subjectivity comes in.

The difference is
(1) If you want to state that GFK is better than MC Hammer because GFK has recorded more songs....Instead of neg repping you, I will state this...Yes, GFK has recorded more songs, but volume is not an indication of quality...

When you say "A is better than B" you are trying to compare the quality of A and B in the context of what A and B are ULTIMATELY designed to do, and how much A you have has NO bearing to its qualitative superiority over B...

To be specific, rappers are entertainers...The MAIN function is entertainment...Therefore, GFK having more songs is NOT an indication of whether or not he is a better entertainer than MC Hammer...

However, record sales are an indication of quality...If you consistently sell albums, then SURELY you have a product of quality that many people are willing to consume...

Therefore, number of record sold is a BETTER criteria than number of records recorded...

MC Hammer is a global icon...He was MORE successful with his craft than GFK will ever be...Anybody who neg reps me for making this assertion is a BONA FIDE IDIOT...
