I heard a coach on NFL radio say that once upon a time, the majority of the nation's most talented black players attended HBCUS. So HCBUs, rather than racist redneck schools like Alabama, were once the most fertile breeding grounds for NFL talent. At base, the reason schools like Alabama have flourished is because they have legions of scummy wealthy white boosters willing to consume their TV production. HBCUs meanwhile do not. Blacks unfortunately have no such base, in part because of our comparatively tiny population. We can hardly keep HBCUs functioning let alone attract the commercialism needed to fund scholarships and attract talent.
That said, HBCUs represent black equity, history and excellence. Southern redneck schools are bastions of shame, slavery and self interest. It would be a net positive if black athletes attended HBCUs, period. Recruits might even learn something about themselves in the process.
When were stars primarily drafted coming from HBCU's. Show me that list?
