Food, definitely. I'm assuming you've been to both places, based on what you say here. I've been as well. I often find the similarities between African countries to not be so...tangible. Hard to explain.

I think I understand you.

well it's obvious "African american" history starts in America. But to say they are not connected to Africa is dumb

Hilarious considering the reason Malcolm made that quote was for people like you who believes our history began with Slavery :heh:

Malcolm probably felt he had to begin from there cause he didn't like the Black America's history. He felt it was obviously tainted and made Blacks seem inferior.

Breh, please go take a black history course, you're seriously embarrassing yourself :snoop:

How do you think Jamaicans ended up in Jamaica :dahell:

Just like blacks in North America, blacks in South America and the Caribbean are also descendants of West African slaves. Here's a picture of Jamaican slaves in 1891.

slavery_2823530c.jpg

It's why Jamaica is now leading the charge for all people in the Caribbean to get reparations

People like you are literally the reason why black history month was created because you seem woefully ignorant of our history :wow:

I've acknowledged the connection that we all have with the Slave Trade. But I've never met a single Jamaican that claimed to be African. We all claim to be whatever ethnic group we belong to here in the Americas.

With the understanding that we can trace our history back to Africa.. But don't pretend people care, claim, or get particularly prideful when you mention that place. For most black ppl in the Americas it's just a place.

"The Motherland" is just a place. A lot of lip service goes to it...but ask around. No one connects with it like they do with being from the South...or from the Caribbean, or anywhere else in the Americas.

Why can't you connect with both? The difference between Blacks and other races is that they were removed from their homes and placed somewhere else by force. And then had their history whitewashed. So I think it's important to know why.

You can try. But it's like some white guy that's been in America 4 generations... He knows his ppl are from Ireland, but at this point dude isn't Irish.. He's just some white guy.

white supremacy in the Americas INHERENTLY rely on the projected "fact" that black people's history STARTED AT SLAVERY. So what are you trying to say?

The west Africans didn't suddenly lose their language and religion and identity when they stepped on a ship, you sound like you're in denial.

Pretend these countries don't have Africa deeply embedded in their cultures...

Pretend creoles don't exist.

Pretend vodou, santeria, canomble, etc don't exist.

Pretend Marcus Garvey didn't start Pan-Afrcanism...

All of these survived. So what do you mean there's no connection?

In history classes in all of america, cacs are subconciously taught that blacks are inferior to them. That is the intellectual foundation of America.

Just because you can't go to a country in Africa and relate to them as cousins and they don't personally see you as African or whatever doesn't make our connection void.

Are you Dominican?

All these countries were most definitely influenced by Africa, but they've got their own culture and that culture starts from when they got here as slaves...

Even voluntary migration develops it's own culture. Look at Chicano Mexicans.

My fam is Jamaican and I've never heard the word claffy. He's definitely a fassy though :ehh:

Aight.. So if I asked you where you're from you'd say your family is Jamaican, not African..

As a Jamaican what connection do you and your family have to Africa? (Just anecdotally)

but at this point dude isn't Irish.. He's just some white guy.

And yet he will claim, subconciously or conciously, all the achievements and culture of whites.

All these countries were most definitely influenced by Africa, but they've got their own culture and that culture starts from when they got here as slaves...

Okay but where does that culture come from? Just from being a slave?

We claim all of the Black achievements as well. That's why we have all these #blackexcellence posts for anything great done by any Black person no matter where they're from.

The culture on this side of the world is a blend of of cultures. We speak blended languages, etc. Africa has a part to do with it of course. But we're our own thing over here as far as ethnic groups.

This @gonzo8402 dude stays trolling the root. It's disgusting.

I just stumbled across this dudes instagram and it's reflective of what I'm getting at as far as people not saying that they're from Africa even though we're obviously Black over here too.

https://instagram.com/jvromain/

This dude describes himself as a Colombian of Haitian Descent.

But anyway, @Concerning VIolence made the point that we should be talking about ethnicity, not race.

So, as an ethnic group, Black ppl in the the Americas history starts with the slave trade. :yeshrug:
