That's why during Black History Month we celebrate great Black Americans, not kings from foreign lands.

Now, I'm not saying that African history isn't interesting, or good to know... I'm just saying that as a black person in the Americas our history starts at the Slave Trade and everything we've achieved after.

Africans are blacks and black history started well before slavery. :patrice:

But using that logic I could say my family history starts in Alabama even though I know that before we were here we were in Illinois. Discounting the time when we were in Africa as not our history is like ignoring my family history from another state cause I've never been or because it would be harder to get the specifics. Which creates a too narrow view of history. Cause really no group has a "start" to history. And if you know that they purposely tried to cut you off from your previous history, why wouldn't you want to go back now that we're more able to? I'd understand you saying the bulk of our focus should be the Americas since we have the strongest connection to our people here but to say anything before that isn't part of our history at all is :patrice:.

I think this can be summed up as: We're our own tribe now. This is the direction I'm leaning now.

It really makes very little since for a AA to walk around wearing Sudanese garb because his part of his DNA states so. We are mixed with various tribes forming an entirely new tribe. As I compared, it's like a pit bull terrier walking around saying it's a bulldog.

Not saying we deny or forget our African origins, but we are a new tribe. We need to name ourselves and push forward.

African American history was an interruption in African History. Hypothetically speaking, let's say all the blacks of the diaspora in the Americas and the Carribbean came her by choice and not by force, no slave ships, no slave masters, do you think there would still be a disconnection between our history before crossing the Atlantic and our history after crossing?
