African Americans .why did y'all call us Africans "booty scratchers" when we came to this country

It's the Yoruba word used to describe those of East/South East descent. The word itself isn't a slur but it I've heard it used as a slur.

I'm not a Yoruba language expert but I did learn some traditional Yoruba at a Saturday school. When translating some things to English, the language tends to be descriptive. E.g. the word used to describe something green in Yoruba is alawo ewe, the language doesn't have a word for green. Alawo ewe roughly translates to color of nature. Most people will use the word green because it's perceived as easier to use.

Akata roughly translates to a cat that doesn't live at home.

My dad always used it to describe crazy women. He told me it's a woman that is wild so her husband returns her back to her family or she runs lose like a stray cat.

Never witnessed this. I also have never seen video or written proof but I've seen the opposite documented in social media and I have also heard Africans talk down about AA right in front of me.

To be honest, this is my first time hearing anyone respond to being called that

i never went to school with anyone from Africa but a lot of kids use to call each other that in elementary school. I always thought the joke was that it was so dumb and random you just had to laugh at it.
