Akata not a derogatory term on its own, it just what we call American blacks. An African may use it with malicious intent, but the word itself isn't a slur toward blacks.
Like the word Chinco (used to describe those of East/South East Asian descent). The word itself isn't derogatory but it is used in a derogatory context.

is that a Nigerian slur too?
It's the Yoruba word used to describe those of East/South East descent. The word itself isn't a slur but it I've heard it used as a slur.

I'm not a Yoruba language expert but I did learn some traditional Yoruba at a Saturday school. When translating some things to English, the language tends to be descriptive. E.g. the word used to describe something green in Yoruba is alawo ewe, the language doesn't have a word for green. Alawo ewe roughly translates to color of nature. Most people will use the word green because it's perceived as easier to use.

Akata roughly translates to a cat that doesn't live at home.

I`m African and never heard the term Akata used until I saw Sugar Hill with Wesley Snipes, lol Y'all Nigerians stay on that :mjpls: time.

Anyways I was never called any dumb names for being Africa as nobody knew I was African, as I was born in the states, and people thought my mom was from the Islands because of accent. All this cultural division is idiotic and stupid because at the end of the day you dont know what someone is until they tell you, so to create a bias after they tell you what they are ethnically when you didnt have a bias prior is dumb. Blacks are the only group on earth to have the past we did when it comes to having our people split up globally and many not knowing their origins, so to use the same rules other Races do towards each other is dumb, especially when we are getting our behinds kicked on literally every part of this planet.

First, why would a AA even call an African a booty scratcher when all AA acknowledge that their bloodline is from Africa? That would be counter productive as well as c00ning because it would indirectly be saying they hate their blackness and love that they are 100% african. Dumb.
:scust:nikkas just be telling on themselves as out of touch

did you even grow up around black people?

Sugar Hill is the reason so many people have an incorrect understanding of the word til today.

I remember calling people that as a kid :snoop:

Difference is I was like 10 years old. I'm not calling people that now. Those Africans calling us "Akata" are grown. And their logic is ass backwards. They dont like "Akatas" because we're products of rapists, thieves and slaves but, they're okay with "Oyinbos" who raped, stole and enslaved us :dead: Never mind the fact that several tribes in Africa did us dirty. "Oyinbos" didn't even have to kill or threaten violence with some tribes, they was handing us over like sex slaves from Taken.
you got people shytting on Africans in this very same thread though breh.

Dude a lot of AA's went in hard on foreign blacks and acted like foreign blacks are less than. I saw this a lot growing up. I've seen AA's talk mad shyt, I've seen Africans talk mad shyt, and the same with Afro Latino and Afro Caribbean people.
