I have no doubt in my mind that a genre similar to rap would have developed either in the south, west, or mid west eventually.Obviously hip-hop is heavily influenced by african american history but I dont think hip-hop could have been born in any place in the world except NYC because its such a melting pot between all kinds of cultures from all over the world. If hip-hop wasnt influenced by carribeans why didnt it start in Alabama or somewhere in the south where all the blacks are african americans?
Disclaimer: I didnt read the thread the thread, I just saw some people fighting about hip hop
The melting pot had nothing to do with it when rapping was an African American thing that we had been doing for over 100 years. James Brown was talkin about I can dig rapping in 72 and he waswasn't from melting pot he was a country nikka. Hell Jamaican nikkas learned how to toast and rap from us.
Pigment Markham was from the Carolinas and had a whole rap song in the 60s, syncopated rapping at that. You nikkas obviously know nothing about African American history or culture.
