Looks like Moranis but acts like John DuPont. I'd be worried if I were Cody or Jericho
Rick Moranis working for AEW
You could've had a legit point if you had chosen any other wrestler besides Miro.I'm not saying it's terrible, but the writing/character development should be way better considering the former WWE talent they have. It's not something I find myself wanting to watch...at first yes, but now nah.
I know we all bash on WWE BUT they still possess the magic to turn ppl into someone you care about. They possess the ability to give you a name and it usually looks/fits and gives you an identity vs just going with your real name.
WWE got Rusev over as a major heel, then again with the wildly popular Rusev Day stuff. He should be better than he is in AEW. Instead he's basically just a guy. A guy named Miro. "Miro" doesn't pop for me.
WWE can basically release anybody(short of Lesnar or Reigns) and have no fear of AEW doing anything significant with them to challenge wwe for that top spot.
It's a shame really.
I want them to do & be better, but they gotta get better booking and creative!
Can someone tell me what Miro is doing besides being TNT champ? Like, that is a serious question. I didn't even mind hypebeast gamer Miro because he had a CHARACTER. I'm assuming now that he brutalized Sabian and won the title he is more like Bulgarian Brute Rusev. Okay, but that's generic. Why couldn't he brutalize people in the name of our Lord and Savior while being a hypebeast gamer while his annoying chickenshyt friend hid behind him?
Splitting up Miro and Sabian so Miro can "be himself" is typical WWE booking. Only difference is that AEW didn't have him show up in a chopper suit afterward. Realistically you could have had Hypebeast Miro demolish the Best Friends, steamroll Cody for the TNT title and then have Sabian and Miro win the tag titles via the old Ultraviolence where it's revealed Kip was a sociopath all along.
Whatever he's doing now they could have had him doing from the start. I think that's why people constantly point out Miro as a failing of AEW booking. It's not hard to book him at all and they totally botched it.
Adam Page’s booking hurts breh, dude has all the potential in the world to be a big star in the company and I know, I know “long term booking.” but damn give the man something else to do, just a hint he’ll get the belt one day. These are all great points.....aew marks tells us to wait 6 months ..but when wwe does sumthn they run and shyt on it asap(bobby lashley)
Like im supposed to care Bout adam page?? Hes been booked as drunk scott hall kickn it with a fukkn jobber group and thats the guy thats gona beat kenny omega??????
Someone in a thread before Double or Nothing mentioned having him win the FTW title off Brian Cage at the PPV, and that would accomplish two things. One, it'd further the Cage/Team Taz split up and two, it’d make Hangmayne the uncrowned champion who would ideally be further ahead in line for Omega. Instead they had a basic midcard match with no real ramifications or anything which is cool, but not Booker of the Year level shytAdam Page’s booking hurts breh, dude has all the potential in the world to be a big star in the company and I know, I know “long term booking.” but damn give the man something else to do, just a hint he’ll get the belt one day.
And with his wife being pregnant he’ll probably be leaving towards the end of her pregnancy for who knows how long.
I don’t even care what he wins at this point, I just want my boy to have something. I actually like the Dark Order as a midcard group, but if he isn’t going to officially be the leader or just straight up split from their story and do something else, what’s the point? I’ll wait and see what they do though.Someone in a thread before Double or Nothing mentioned having him win the FTW title off Brian Cage at the PPV, and that would accomplish two things. First off, I love the company. And actively look forward to Dynamite. Its my favorite weekly wrestling show, and the only one company that truly has my investment right now. but its definitely not without its flaws. I've got a few that i'll list in a few.
But man, you lost me when you used Miro as your example. Like his character WAS trash. And then they course corrected. He's not a "deep" character now, but dude is dropping one liners, killing folks and just went over Darby. And its still rather young in his turn so who knows, it could turn out to be more than just a "killer brute". But he's in a GREAT spot. Hardly someone I would use in the present to make your points.
I'll try to respond around that...as I can understand certain gripes with the company. I do think both AEW hate and praise can go overboard. I try to stay fair. As mentioned, I do love the show. But objectively, I find that too often they set someone up with a push, you get invested and then that person disappears out of rotation in favor of someone else. They have a core cast, but due to the size of the roster and only 2 hours as of right now of CORE programming, folks just disappear for a bit, and tend to fall out of memory. I hate that shyt.
Also I think they need to define some rules. They do not have to be WWE's. But commentary should hammer home that in tag matches folks can stay in for longer than other places off a tag. So the ref and the story of the match don't look stupid. Maybe emphasize that refs are inclined to not instantly DQ people for interference, so shyt like Reba cracking folks with her crutch in plain sight isn't something that takes you out of it. And so maybe JR can stop spazzing as much when these things happen too lol. Selling is also an obvious issue in certain matches, though i'll say that to my eye, watching an Adam Cole or Johnny Gargano (mind you I love those guys) big event match irks me more than most Bucks matches. I think sometimes they tell great stories, and sometimes they're in it for the flash.
I've got some more stuff (hi Cody), but nothing crippling for me. I do think its important, on a positive note to identify why AEW gets "leeway". And why its "okay" when it does stuff that WWE might get shyt for. And its because the trust isn't broken yet. They haven't been around long enough to really wear on people with their flaws. And more importantly, the company seems aware and able to adjust to criticism. Well besides Cody. Also, they aren't as creatively bankrupt and lackadaisical as WWE. Dynamite almost NEVER feels like a repeat. It only occasionally (hello this past Friday) feels like its treading water. They seldom repeat matches.
They emphasize promos that are not stilted by being scripted. And some of them are amazing. They may have people who rotate out, but there's a concerted push to keep elevating Darby, MJF, Jungle Boy, Sammy, Orange Cassidy and others as their future. They seldom insult my intelligence. I feel like someone is trying to craft cohesive stories for the most part. It may occasionally stumble, or not gel...like say the Bucks heel turn. Or the conclusion to Barbed Wire deathmatch. But the effort is apparent, and enough is good to offset the bad. They set you up for what matches to expect sometimes weeks in advance so you have something to get hype about. And those matches USUALLY have actual finishes. WWE makes impromptu matches every fukking week where guys trade wins endlessly and end in fukking roll ups or a DQ after you've been watching 20 mins.
You said that WWE has the magic to make people care about wrestlers and AEW doesn't? I disagree, man. Outside of what Roman's doing, I don't give a faaaaaak. And they have virtually no viable babyfaces right now. I don't even trust them when they DO seem to find em. Because they quickly spam the same matches with them, hit them with that 50/50 booking, or at this point, cut them. AEW has quite a few, man. You might not care about em, but people who like the product see quite a few characters to invest in.
I'm very happy with the company overall, man. I don't need perfection. I don't expect it. I don't expect to like every wrestler, every angle or every style of match. But I trust the company to try. And I feel they have. If AEW was literally just WWE but less insulting to my intelligence and like 30% more effort, i'd be alright with that. But to me its already more. Could be better? SURE. But a year in? I'm a fan, and the rose is not off the bloom yet
