Adam Silver: League looking at remedies for players requesting trades early in their contract

Do you think a remedy exists to prevent early trade details?

Still doesn’t make sense. Franchises don’t operate on the same ‘small window’ mentality that players do. Think long term. You might as well make a run at a chip then let him walk in free agency.

Like think about what we’re saying: ‘Yea we’re the Vegas favorites to win a chip but, humph I just don’t want him on my team anymore’. What are they dating.

Let’s not get caught up in the hype: Kyrie is a weird dude but he hasn’t played bc of injuries, and a once in a lifetime event that caused the vax mandate. Your job as a franchise is to block out the white noise. They should have made a run at a chip

The Nets don’t want Kyrie Irving on their team anymore

you seem unwilling to believe their pov :yeshrug:

Owners can’t just up and trade players then like Blake & Harrison Barnes or Demar. Also healthy players like Wall should not be held back because of a lack of trade offers
I agree with Wall but why can’t organizations move players.

DeMar played a decade in Toronto and the team had peaked with him on it.

Well, in KD's case he sent mixed messages. He signed a 4 year deal, that says to the owner who signed you, "I like it here and plan to stay." Now before the contract even starts you ask for a trade? It's not 'shut up and dribble', it's 'make up your mind', you just signed and acted like you want to be here.

Fair point. And I genuinely believe KD signed and at the time of signing, he wanted to be there....but things change. Whether it's how relations have gone between BK and Kyrie or him not liking the current roster or whatever, if he's unhappy, he's got every right to want to change his situation and I don't think there should be an effort to stifle players.

If you or I start a new job and it's not working out as expected, we'll find something new, resign and move on - players can't do that within the confines of the CBA, closest they can do is ask to be traded, I'm not mad at that.

However, from the team perspective I stand by what I said as well; if a player wants out and it's not in your best interest, politely decline and tell them lets try and figure this thing out cause we ain't sending yo ass nowhere!

All jokes aside I really hope NBPA doesn't fukk up and lose guaranteed contracts going forward.

Lines are already getting blurred last couple of years with agents announcing contracts on twitter and including final year team options, that will never be exercised, to hype up the contracts.

Hopefully most NBPA agrees on is maybe a salary deduction for a player requesting a trade with 3+ years left on his contract (although that would benefit the team he's going to).

it would be fukked up, but cats like:

KD
Kyrie
Kawhi
Simmons

could legit fukk it up for everyone.

Uncertain grounds
This is a big deal

They know it's possible with Zion

This is big for less attractive franchises that hit on the draft. A guy resigns just for the bonus that the team can provide in salary for the rookie extension then goes through the motions and demands a trade

Y’all seem to be under the impression that NBA owners don’t have a monopoly on professional basketball in the US. They can and will make sure the stars they sign honor contracts and will also continue to do what they want with players who aren’t seen as necessary or important to the team they are trying to build. It is what it is.

good point....if we go this route, then we'd just see players getting locked into shorter 2 year contracts..that way everyone is happy

Just in the past 10 months off the top

Norman Powell
Spencer Dinwiddie
Malcom Brogdon

There’s more as well..

Remember the Clippers resigning Blake to a multi-year max, dropping a whole bunch of video tributes in the process, then shipping him off to Detroit to die a few months later :picard:
