Adam Silver: League looking at remedies for players requesting trades early in their contract

Do you think a remedy exists to prevent early trade details?

There already is a solution, owners are just bytchmade. There is no way in hell KD’s trade request should have been taken serious. Not only does KD have 4 years on his deal, KYRIE OPTED IN!

He’s healthy, there’s no vax. Why wouldn’t you just play out the year?!?! Who gives a fukk if KD wants a trade. You really mean to tell me a team with KD, Kyrie, maybe Ben, plus 2 all-time shooters (Harris, curry) is just untenable?!? Just pathetic.

As a fan of basketball the SPORT I didnt like it . At first

But the nba is not just a sport. It’s entertainment and a business and I wish the players well.

These owners have no loyalty so why should the players . They’ve proven time and time again that they will do you wrong given the best possible scenario. So fukk ‘em :yeshrug: .

I think they should let it rock I think the pay off in ten years will be well worth it. I think players swapping teams frequently will shake up the game and nba. Just throwing out a hypothetical random names at the top of my head

imagine ja doesn’t win and leaves Memphis and links up with Zion and Tatum for the lakers and in the east we have luka , giannas and booker on the knicks and those teams spilt up and another team is in the finals . Next year it’s two totally diffenrt teams. Gms working overtime every off season putting together a roaster that can compete in this new marketplace . It will be a disaster and miracle and I like the idea of that chaos. No more runs where the same teams win over and over .

And just make incentives for the players who don’t swap teams and request trades

this is true. but KD should have negotiated a no trade clause like bradley beal. so he should blame his agent.

also, when a team is giving u guaranteed 9 figure money, u have obligated to show up to work, not bytch about the gig before the ink is dry on the contract. they are compensated so heavily BECAUSE there is a risk of being traded against your will. this is part of the business, and why they make the money they do.

Teams can trade players whenever they want but God forbid a player asks to leave
they can ask to leave, but teams aren't obligated to trade them. also, they are signing a deal for a guaranteed salary for X number of years. there's no stipulation about where they will work/play. like I said, if u feel a way, then negotiate the no-trade clause.

KD said Barkley is jealous of today's players because they're making so much more money than old guys. So KD is now making sure to fukk up the money for future generations of NBA players so he doesn't have to deal with that

The nets don’t want Kyrie on their team anymore

KD didn’t qualify for a no trade clause. The majority of superstar players don’t. Even then, they’re useless anyways as more times than not star players always end up at their preferred destination.

All jokes aside I really hope NBPA doesn't fukk up and lose guaranteed contracts going forward.

Lines are already getting blurred last couple of years with agents announcing contracts on twitter and including final year team options, that will never be exercised, to hype up the contracts.

Hopefully most NBPA agrees on is maybe a salary deduction for a player requesting a trade with 3+ years left on his contract (although that would benefit the team he's going to).

Still doesn’t make sense. Franchises don’t operate on the same ‘small window’ mentality that players do. Think long term. You might as well make a run at a chip then let him walk in free agency.

Like think about what we’re saying: ‘Yea we’re the Vegas favorites to win a chip but, humph I just don’t want him on my team anymore’. What are they dating.

Let’s not get caught up in the hype: Kyrie is a weird dude but he hasn’t played bc of injuries, and a once in a lifetime event that caused the vax mandate. Your job as a franchise is to block out the white noise. They should have made a run at a chip

Unless they make league pass free, the trade rumor free agent side of the NBA will always be more important to the growth of the league than the on court product. It's why it's so popular on social media.

When has a player been traded year 1 into a deal they signed?

It happens all the time to lower tier players. In the case of high profile, it happened with Blake Griffin a year into his contract after they showered him with attention and whatnot to get him to stay.

C's traded for Derrick White and Daniel Theis (after they traded him the prior season) in the first year of their new contracts.
