Yes, and it's better than the new D'angelo album:umad:

juslisen is a classic... don't get me wrong but musiq's best album is his first. shyt is... :ohlawd:

that new d'angelo album is the shyt though.. best album that has dropped this year. you will be happy as fukk when you hear the album. it has what the music world is lacking or has lost for that matter. they don't make records like what d'angelo just put out just now anymore. it's ONE album that is worth the buy and i'm ONE of those folks that is real fickle when it comes to buying music nowadays. pretty sure the album will be considered to be a classic 10 years from now.

Before we knew him as D'angelo. He wrote and produced this Classic featuring Black Men coming together against Violence. This was way back in 94 so all this talk about "Why don't blacks talk about crime or black or black crime" is the biggest B.S. talking point ever. We've always talked about it. It's crazy looking back cause I was like this was like a We are the World but for Black RnB singers:

Black Men United (B.M.U.) was a collaboration of many African American male R&B, hip hop and soul music artists. Its sole song "U Will Know", written by a young D'Angelo, was released in 1994. It was featured in the movie Jason's Lyric and on the movie's soundtrack.

@The Bookie that may be the plan and method for other future people...Lauryn should try this....Get Questlove like D' and do the same thing...make him bring the A game with production....tone up her singing again and make unintelligible singing to cover her writer's block and get great reviews from every magazine and news publication :ehh: :ehh: :ehh: wat you think?

"Can't snatch the meat out of the lioness' mouth/Sometimes you gotta just ease it out.

Kind of random but I like that line on the album :shaq:

In all seriousness though I hope/want him to release another record next year that helps solidify him being a legend....I think he just needs that ONE more to put a stamp on it as a career...I don't mean terms of retirement I mean in terms of catching lightning in a bottle. People will say how you can say that off of 4 albums but its rare you have artists with even 2 great albums. Plus you factor in his numerous classic guest appearances verses and songwriting for others that you just showed.

On the follow up record I think he just needs to tone his vocals make it clearer so its even harder to find any criticisms with him.

D'angleo is literally like Biggie or Hendrix. Didn't have a lot of albums but the albums are Classic. He dropped two Classics and went away but those 2 Classics are so good that people have been waiting for "Black Messiah" forever. Quality over Quantity But I think he's back this time. It's funny, Sade and Maxwell both took 10 years off. Then they both dropped near Classic comeback albums but it's been 5 years for both of them again, lol. Back in the day artist use to make you anticipate the next release cause it was 2-3 years later. D'angleo, Maxwell and Sade made their fans wait a long time but it was worth it. Hopefully D drops another LP within the next 2-3 years. Also remember, D loves to do Hip Hop callbo's. He needs to jump on some records.

Instant vintage was insane. It just came out of nowhere kinda like this d Angelo album and shock the music industry although it's way underrated and saddiq isn't as talented or respected sometimes as dangelo. I'm just saddiq fan since I saw him playing guitar on lady and later discovered his other music and collaborations with Lucy Pearl,etc....

But yea instant vintage is classic but more commercial sound

Black messiah is classic but more avant guard experimental

Both are honest and powerful lyrically.

Both are a perfect mix of gospel, funk, folk and soul music, or what Saadiq would call "gospeldelic"
I think I need to go listen to both albums again now:whew:

Good post. It's just a couple things i personally disagree with...

Instant Vintage commercial sound comment. It was experimental, gospel, neo soul, funk. Saadiq done what the hell he wanted on that album, which is why i love it so dam much. Like you said, he coined it "gospeldelic". You got to think when that album come out the type of R n B that was being dropped. A lot of people thought he would ride the wave of Toni Toni Tone but he didn't.

Also i personally don't agree with saaqiq not being as talented. Dude is the complete musician. D'Angelo's voice is butter of course, better than Saadiqs, and he can also produce and play instruments but Saadiqs on another level in that regard in my opinion. (just seen your other message saying basically the same). Saadiq is hugely respected in the industry but perhaps to the fan you are right.

I've been having these discussions since the 90's :russ:

Ultimately, I'm just blessed to have music from both these legends.

I felt like this the first couple times I listened to it. Definitely thought people were hyping it based onhis name alone. Then I listened to it with some pretty high quality headphones and I could hear a lot more of the stuff going on. I'm still not in love with it like a lot of people, but Im giving it a third listen as we speak and Im really diggin it. Im playing it off my phine on a UE Boom. It sounds dope right now. If you stick with it, you'll enjoy it, I believe.

EDIT: you still wont understand what the fukk he's saying. But the music is dope
