Love this album. D is one of the greats.Just the musicality of the album is mind blowin. The Charade is my fukking joint. Voodo is still my favorite album, but gotdamn BM sounds like a funkadelic and prince in his prime collabo album and i didnt think any current artist had the skilll to pull that off.
::salute:; to D forreal. :wow::ohlawd::ahh::whoo::wow::ohhh::ooh::win:

Gotta love it when it's all over the news .......

http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2014/12/dangelo_make_a_comeback_for_th.html

"The neo-soul singer surprised fans Monday by releasing "Black Messiah" with very little fanfare. The result is the best R&B album of 2014 and one of the decade's most exciting comebacks.

Of course, the real star of "Black Messiah" is D'Angelo's voice. It's the closest thing this generation has to the sweet sounds of Al Green. Songs like the sexy Spanish guitar-driven "Really Love" and the harmonious "Till It's Done (Tutu)" prove D'Angelo's ad libs sound better than other singers' best runs."

http://www.newsweek.com/after-14-year-hiatus-dangelo-rises-again-black-messiah-292560

"The album’s second side begins with a clever acknowledgment of D’Angelo’s situation as an artist in “Back in the Future (Part I).” He longs for “the way it was,” but is acutely aware of how he is being seen, especially in light of his infamous and steamy “How Does It Feel” music video: “So if you’re wondering about the shape I’m in / I hope it ain’t my abdomen that you’re referring to.” Though that may be the image he left his fans with, 14 years of anticipation may have had its intended effect: Those wondering about D’Angelo were doing so for musical reasons, and the Black Messiah has finally arrived."
I appreciate that little bit about Al, definitely one of my favorite Soul singers ever.

Prayer is such a wonderful, but spooky song. I done had it on repeat atleast 20x today alone .........I get goosebumps every time I listen to it. I love it. Its hauntingly beautiful. Its sounds like your walking through a pitch black forest where's there's a bunch of smoke and spirits all around lurking. Then as you walk along the pathway visibly shaken & weak, the smoke clears, everything gets brighter and your mind, body & soul becomes stronger.

That might sound kinda weird lol but that's all I can picture after listening to the song. It feels like a religious experience.

Semi-related, but one of my favorite 'mental releases' is to go sit in a sauna for 20-25 minutes while listening to some form of haunting/chilling/emotional music on my headphones. Prayer and 1000 Deaths are going to do their part getting me through my next session:whew:

You aren't the only one, I'm finding some tracks are easier than others, it's been brought up numerous times in some of the reviews I've read from people. First thing I thought when listening through headphones, is that they need to raise the vocal track, although it wasn't as bad through my home theater setup. ?uestlove addresses it on Okayplayer:

why do you think d'angelo obscures his vocals?

ugh.

i know right?

which is why "til its done" shocked me being non overly layered.

i dunno man. might just be a super insecurity thing.

i mean his voice is a natural resource and the best instrument on the album.

i have 0 weight in the "stop hiding behind all that shyt!" department.

always next album tho

Yea I felt the same way about some songs on Voodoo too, though. I think that's just a part of his style, but I personally have no problem with it:smile:
