i still stand by brown sugar bein' his best album and my favorite album by d'angelo
voodoo was cool but it wasn't better than brown sugar imo. however, it (voodoo) was a step in the right direction in terms of growin' as artist and brancin' out
black messiah is like a sequel to voodoo that's been mastered and better imo. it's like the "seed" (voodoo album) grew and blossomed into black messiah.
with all that said, his albums go like this for me; brown sugar >>>>>> black messiah >>>>>>> voodoo
^no weak albums, only ones i prefer over another^
d' doesn't have 5 to 10 albums but he also doesn't have any weak ones either. great to have him back in the game
oh yeah, my favorite songs off black messiah are the followin' in no order:
prayer (this is unbelievable!)
betray my heart (wow!)
back to the future part 1 (my god!)
the charade (nice nod to prince's 85'/86' era)
really love (beautiful)
another life (soulful)
the door (i love the guitar work on here, my god! this is chillin' out in the country somewhere and just embracin' nature music)
i didn't think any other album would knock toni braxton and babyface out of my top spot for album of the year (2014) but d' definitely has
toni and babyface still got second place though
