This guy is up there with the greatest artists of any time, the level of music this man has produced, 3 straight game changing classics, him Erykah Badu Nas and Lauryn Hill are the best to come out of the 90's.

I gotta throw Maxwell in that mix, that Urban Hang Suite got so much spin along with his albums after...........

This is gonna get me killed maybe, but I hadn't listened to Voodoo in like 10 years so I put it on today and I honestly think I like Black Messiah better, or at the very least its equal

Brown Sugar always was special to me though, probably my favorite R&B/soul album

As a fan I ain't gonna throw rocks, just glad the album is getting this response and we have a stickied thread on The Coli for D'Angelo :blessed:. I feel like Black Messiah is an extension of Voodoo, which to me was a swimming pool of raw, uncut soul & funk, and everybody got tossed into it. The more you stayed it in, the better it got. With Black Messiah, we got what we were mostly waiting for, that soul/funk that D is known for with some rock style mixed in, and is nothing like what is on the charts now.

sorry if this sounds cheesy but i know some of you guys may be able to relate....the album cover itself(btw where is the image from) makes the record even better :blessed: its like the whole package.

LIstening to this after a blunt and everything is starting to come together for me instrumentation wise on second listen. Back to the Future, Till It's Done, have some amazing arrangements (tbh the whole album does).

I agree, 1st thing you notice becides the fact that it's an actual D'Angelo release is the fist!! Not sure where it's from. He couldn't have released this at a better time with everything going on in the USA. The way he puts the liner notes and pictures together for his releases (esp Voodoo) just add to it.
