I know this was supposedly GRRM's idea but doubt it goes down like this in the books. Its already logistically implausible with Stannis being in Winterfell and Shireen being at the wall. Also doubt GRRM would "spoil" this for readers, Shireen may die/get burned but don't think it will be Stannis' doing.

I think in the book things become dire for Stannis and he sees his daughter as Nissa Nissa. The ultimate sacrifice. He orders her sacrifice.

It will probably be more incognito than the show, and Stannis will probably not be present, but I think he sends the command.

Davos has always been the moral compass for Stannis during his time as hand. The acts that people like about Stannis usually involve Davos, even the rescue at the Wall.
