It was found during a routine check up. Been going through a rough patch the last 2 years or so. Marriage problems, work related stress, then a divorce, and now recently my uncle passed away.

Probably not my uncle passing but everything else.

And yes, it’s type 2.

What's that A1C looking like playa?

I'd recommend hopping on an SGLT-2, either Farxiga or Jardiance. Both have additional indications for CKD and CV disease. If you got commercial insurance you should be able to get one of them at a low cost. Usually you'd run with metformin, but if your A1C under control a lot of providers will drop the metformin

One of my childhoods friends from back home (BK) passed from complications from diabetes a little over a week ago.

He went to the hospital and as they were in the process of amputating his leg, he caught a heart attack from shock.

Please take care of yourself and watch your sugar intake. Stress also elevates it. 🙏🏽

My other childhood friend lost his foster mom to that shıt. (That was the hospitals fault)

What changes did they make?

Drop the weight! Get on a plan to lose weight ASAP.

Exercise!!!!
My mom walks EVERY FUKKING DAY. She be walking in the snow and I have to call her to tell her she’s crazy :deadrose:

My aunt was a VP at her hospital and had to be in the office at like 7am every damn day for a big debriefing before the executive team started their day (nationally renowned hospital system so basically everyday was a big deal and something was happening).
She would wake up at 430/5am every Monday-Friday, go to the basement and hit the treadmill for 40min, then prepare and be out the door before 7. She did this for decades. That workout routine kept her healthy.

Another aunt, HR director. I mentioned on here before- I would walk into the gym @530am to workout and she was WALKING OUT of the gym. Makeup, in the gym @430am every M-F before getting ready for work. She also had the same routine for decades. Made me realize I was slacking. :deadrose:

Another aunt, engineer- super stressful career. She was never big, but she wasn’t working out as much as she should’ve. When she retired around 50, her doctor told her she was pre diabetic and it was a big fukking deal in the family. So everyone was like “hell naw you gotta nip that in the bud”. And of course she’s a determined woman so she did. She hired a personal trainer and lost 20lbs asap, and of course cooked all her meals— heavy on the veggies. Doctor said her numbers were back in normal range and she wouldn’t need any meds.

Unc is a professor— always busy, always attending/hosting events, etc. Same deal. Doctors gave him the same report and his wife (esteemed medical professional herself) said no no no… he also dropped the weight quickly, mainly because she put him on a strict diet (and this time he had to listen since the doctor warned him).

Eat CLEAN. No processed foods. Nothing beats healthy home cooking. Lots of leafy greens, colorful fruits and vegetables.

That old school “your plate should look like a rainbow” adage is true.

I share all this because life gets busy for all of us, but YOU have to be your main priority. Take care of your health.
As long as you have that, you can power through the bullshyt life throws at you!

I suggest you read research specifically from Dr Roy Taylor in the UK who has got patients pancreas working again.

The key thing is losing weight around your mid-drift via fasting and carb cutting.

Ignore just sugar intake, it’s a misconception. You need to concentrate on drastically reducing your carbs e.g white bread, pasta, potatoes, beer, etc.

And get your self a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) and understand what foods spike you. For me white potatoes is a no-no, but noodles are fine; but I low carb so I just don’t eat that type of carb anymore.

Yea see…all that has to go.

Big part of the problem. Those things aren’t healthy and should be treats, but some drink them every single day.

Water water water water water.

99% of everything I drink: water or tea with honey. No soda, no juice— unless I’m sick and need orange juice, or an unsweetened berry juice or something.

You can't reverse it, you can however put it in remission. Once you have diabetes you will always have it and need to watch your numbers. Cut down on sugars, I'd cut almost completely low carv walk workout you will be fine
