Also the one thing that drives me up the wall about robert guerrero is people who overstate his titles...he's picked up as many gotdamn interim titles as he has real belts he gets announced as a champ in like 4 divisions :camby:...that shyt drives me crazy..he was a beltholder in 2 divisions (126,130) and most would be hard pressed to know about the fighters he even won his legit belts from but they sure as hell wasn't from the best in those divisions lol

Junior welterweight Broner to try maturity makeover

Maturity can be a tricky course to navigate. Especially for those blessed with God-given skills and large amounts of success and celebrity along the way that have made them feel invincible.

Adrien Broner is one of those athletes who was able to tap into those superior skills and achieve greatness early on. But the 24-year-old boxer from Cincinnati may be facing a crossroads in his life. He is a former three-division champion (super featherweight, lightweight and welterweight). He’s also someone who has alienated a good number of fans and people within the sport with insensitive remarks that hit below the belt.

Broner (29-1, 22 knockouts) faces John Molina Jr. on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden in a 10-round junior welterweight bout as part of Al Haymon’s new television venture — Premier Boxing Champions — on NBC. It’s not only a chance to cement his stature at 140 pounds and perhaps get a title shot this year, but an opportunity to give his image a needed makeover in front of a nationwide audience, including many who will be seeing him fight for the first time.

“I was once told that if a 40-year-old guy is still living like he’s 25, that’s 15 years of his life that he lost,” Broner said Wednesday. “Of course, I’m not living now like I was 19 or 20. I’ve changed a lot. It’s definitely helping me in my workouts and helping me in my performance.”

The last time Broner fought at the Grand Garden on May 3, his mouth got him in trouble. He had just beaten Carlos Molina in a 10-round unanimous decision in Broner’s first sight since his lone professional defeat by Marcos Maidana, which cost Broner his World Boxing Association welterweight title. Speaking to Showtime’s Jim Gray after defeating Molina, Broner tagged off the interview by saying, “But at the end of the day, I’m still Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner — the Can-Man — anybody can get it. Africans ... I just beat the (expletive) out of a Mexican.”

The World Boxing Council promptly suspended Broner from its rankings and demanded a public apology. The Nevada Athletic Commission didn’t fine or suspend him, but warned him to clean up his act.

Broner also used sexually offensive language during the run-up to his June 22, 2013 fight against Paul Malignaggi, a fight Broner won while WBA welterweight champion. That discord, while perhaps adding to his street cred, offended many.

Don’t expect an X-rated post-fight interview Saturday, Broner vowed.

“I promise that I’ll keep it PG,” he said. “There are certain things I don’t do no more. I don’t need to give any examples. I’ve learned from that.

“I know I’m on a bigger stage with a bigger fan base. There are people who’ve never seen me fight so I want to come out and make a good impression.”

Broner said for now, his home is at 140 pounds.

“I can go back to 147 if I want to,” he said. “But I feel very comfortable at 140. I feel strong and that’s where I probably should be, get some big fights and get back on top.”

He’d be fine facing Maidana again and attempt to avenge his only defeat.

“If it happens, great,” Broner said. “But I’m not really thinking about Maidana at this point. My focus is on John Molina and Saturday.”

As for Molina (27-5, 22 KOs), who is not related to Carlos Molina, Broner said he expects him to come out winging and try and land a big punch.

“We know what he brings and we’re ready or whatever he tries to do,” Broner said. “We know this is an important fight, that the entire country will be watching. You’re going to see the best of Adrien Broner so it won’t really matter what (Molina) does.”

There’s still a bit of braggadocio with Broner and he still talks in the first person. But perhaps Broner is charting a new course. He said he doesn’t have to choose between what he is and what he’s striving to be outside the ring.

“It’s not a balance,” Broner said. “I’m still Adrien Broner. I’m just a more mature Adrien Broner.”

Thurman: I Might Run, Run Right Through Guerrero
Posted by: Rick Reeno on 3/4/2015 .

By Rick Reeno

MGM Grand, Las Vegas - WBA 'regular' welterweight champion Keith 'One Time' Thurman (24-0, 21KOs) is looking to make a big impression on Saturday night, when he faces Robert 'The Ghost' Guerrero (32-2-1, 18KOs) in the NBC televised main event of the debut edition of 'Premier Boxing Champions.'

In the weeks leading up to the fight, members of Guerrero's team have taunted the champion - advising everyone to be prepared for a 'running Thurman.' They believe Thurman is going to quickly jump on his bicycle when Guerrero starts applying the pressure with a high volume of incoming punches.

"I might run, I might run right through him. At the end of the day they can call it running all they want, but it's the art of boxing. Go watch Muhammad Ali, go watch Sugar Ray Leonard, go watch any of the all-time greats. The art of boxing, true boxing, is done in a circular motion within a square ring," Thurman said.

I'm most likely going to box, because its in my nature, it's part of my fighting style. But I do look forward to when we are having moments where we sit down and trade, because the more we trade....I'm the bigger, stronger puncher, so its going to be in my favor to sit down on my punches and connect - and we look forward to connecting. We're going to run, but we might run right
through him."

Ruben Guerrero: Thurman Will Need a Career Change
Posted by: Rick Reeno on 3/4/2015 .

By Rick Reeno

MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Ruben Guerrero, father and trainer of Robert 'The Ghost' Guerrero (32-2-1, 18KOs), is expecting his son to dominate undefeated WBA 'regular' welterweight champion Keith 'One Time' Thurman (24-0, 21KOs) on Saturday night in the NBC televised main event of the debut edition of 'Premier Boxing Champions.'

Thurman has been chasing the opportunity to face Guerrero for a long time. Now he's going to get his shot. But, Ruben believes Thurman made a bad career choice in accepting this fight. He feels 'The Ghost' is going to put in a performance that is so dominating - that Thurman is going to consider the possibility of changing his career.

"We're going to find out [what he's made of], because that's the worst thing he did [in signing for this fight]. We're happy he signed he contract. He made a mistake signing that contract. He's going to find out why when he gets in the ring with a six time world champion. We've been there six times, he hasn't. He going to need to do something else after this. Maybe he can be a politician, because he's a good talker. Maybe he can be a politician or change his name to 'One Time' runner," Ruben told BoxingScene.com.

Santos: I'll Take The Fight To Mares From First Minute
Posted by: Boxing Clever on 3/4/2015 .

Arturo “Rey” Santos, who fights Abner Mares this Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, is likely to have fireworks. Santos doesn't feel any less for not being the favorite to beat Mares, a former three time world champion. The fight will be part of the NBC televised 'Premier Boxing Champions' tripleheader event.

“Inside the ring history doesn’t count. It's going to be the one who completed the better training, and that's me. I've never liked to make declarations. In the past I've faced a three time world champion [Fernando Montiel], and his experience didn’t help him. Fans and boxing experts saw I won that match, and this time I'm coming in ten times more prepared as I know Abner well. I know all of his skills. The only thing that I can promise is that I am going to do my best in order to get the victory,” claimed the former Olympic boxer of Beijing 2008.

"I will try to win from the very first minute of the bout. I have what it takes and I am really motivated for this opportunity. On this card presented by Promociones del Pueblo in the United States I want to establish a legacy!”
