90s kids what was it like transitioning from 2-d to 3-d games?

Going from Super Mario World to Super Mario 64 was so :mindblown: im still trying to piece together how that happened and NOT SUCK.

The only other leap that had me feeling that way was the jump between MGS1 to MGS2.

Super Mario 64 was like 2 quantum leaps forward. There's no way that game should have looked or handled the way it did for it's time. Masterpiece defined.

My first 3d game too. I remember reading the computer mags about this game and when I finally got a PC, this was the first game I bought.

Lol what u mean?

Some of the games mentioned by so called "old heads."

I'm 29 and remember playing the demo for FF7. Blew my mind as a kid.

Pissed I didn't have a memory card. Didn't know what a memory card was at the time. Or moms couldn't afford one.

Pissed considering I stole FF3/6. Which also blew my mind story/character wise. Maybe my favorite game of all time. Chrono Trigger was a beast upon itself.

I couldn't wait. I had to go to my grandma just to get the strategy guide way before the game came out. (FF7 speaking.) This was a gaming store before GameStop or whatever existed.

I guess I was more blown away than the average 3D player because I came up on FFIV (2).

Mario players/fans I get, but for RPG fans, the PS took over where SNES left off.

And Sega failed in that sense. Although, I loved Shining Force 1 & 2. And Phantasy Star IV is one of my top ten RPGS of all time.

The Genesis was for sports and the Dreamcast didn't do much to diversify.

Although, Shenmue was my shyt. Pretty sure I still own it.

Yeah FF7 came way before the 64 games. FF7 blew my mind man as a kid. I'm 30 now.

I was born in 87 :flabbynsick:

I had the og nintendo when I was 3 or 4 years old, I remember when I first got it

Then I seen Sonic 2 at my cousins for sega genesis, I was amazed by that :wow:
I had to get a genesis

I never had a snes but my best friend did. Our fav game was mario kart, we played it all the time.

Then he got the n64 when it came out, I think that starfox game was the first game he got. I remember being impressed by the graphics but I wasnt really into the game.

Then he got mario kart 64, I dont think theres ever been anything I wanted more in my life then a N64 and mario kart once I seen that

I dont think a mario kart game could ever make the jump that it made again from snes to 64. Such an improvement, I was in awe :wow:

Another big jump I recall was when I got the dreamcast and played nba2k for the first time. That was the first time I felt like I was actually part of the game, just seeing the crowd and the graphics. Oh, and sonic adventure was on some other sh*t too, I just couldnt believe the graphics I was seeing :gladbron:

In retrospect early 3D graphics were mad ugly but they were dope at the time. The transition was pretty gradual tho -

-NES was my first system and I can't remember exactly when I got it, but I was probably no older than 5 (pretty damn young). I remember as a little kid playing thru Mario, Snake Rattle n Roll, Mario 3, Double Dragon II, and some other shyt. Was dope at the time.

-Christmas '92 was when my parents got me a Sega Genesis (I would've been 7 at the time) and it was dope as fukk. I remember getting it at the time that it came bundled with a controller and Sonic 2. Got many memories of me and my friend next door (who had a Super NES) going back and forth over each others houses to game.

-Couple years later my dad copped me a 32x from a bargain bin for like $20...was kinda :flabbynsick: but there were a few dope games including the first Virtua Fighter, which was one of the first real 3D games I played.

-Sometime around middle school age when I was maybe 12 or so I got my parents to get me a PS1. The fact that it used CDs instead of cartridges blew my mind at the time. :wow: Lot of dope 3D games on there...that PS1 served me well.

-Christmas '99 (freshman year of high school) I was able to get a Dreamcast and we all know how classic that system was. Sonic Adventure was :wow: and Shenmue blew my mind.

-Can't remember exactly when, but around my jr/senior year of high school I copped a PS2, which was my last system I got as a kid. Lots of classic games, and this was when 3D graphics actually started to get good.

-Didn't get any new systems at all in college, but I got plenty of PS2 games. I think I copped a PS3 shortly after I graduated (2008) and I still have/use it and it works flawlessly. Will be time for a PS4 soon. :obama:

90's kids or 90's teens? Are you sure you want the answer from some young punks that was still in osh kosh b'gosh shyt eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and fascinated by Dora The Explorer and Disney radio? Or do you want to hear from from some teens who were pretty much in middle school and high school, a lot more self sufficient, could make better practical decision and could better understand the concept of gaming and the world around them?:francis:

Cuz as a 90's teen.... that shyt was amazing.... I remember the 1st time I saw Mortal Kombat coming from being a big Street Fighter player I was like :whoo:

I was a teen and I barely remember the shyt myself

Super Mario 64

I remember having the "wow" feeling watching that

Tekken , Mortal Combat,

Madden 92

I can't remember well but Madden in the 90s was funny as hell

The ambulance coming out on the field

That spin out of every tackle, then the hurdle everything, the the stiff arm fumbles

Vick the most unstoppable sports game character since Bo Jackson

Yeah if you really want to know you have to see old articles and reviews from gamers in their early to mid 30s to really understand why Mario 64 left us all like :dwillhuh:

Mario 64 and Zelda oot were the first 2 3D masterpieces IMO. 1998 MGS was another, they were clearly a level above the rest.
Mario 64 wasn't a big deal according to some people. :troll:
