I think they are doing misdirection.
DJ said he wanted Charlo coming in at 163/164 ish. Then Mell would joke/dance around questions about his walk around weight + how much he has to come down from. With the fight being 4 weeks away I think they don't wanna give too much hints at their game plan.
I think most people assume that Mell is aiming to leverage his speed and athleticism over Canelo being that it is assumed he would still have enough pop that Canelo would respect it and not try to walk him down. I think they probably studied the Bivol fight.
Now Charlo's talking about how hard it's been for him to put on the weight

Charlo's jab is his main asset, Canelo has to neutralize that. I don't think Charlo is as good on his feet as say a Plant or BJS so Canelo will probably find him more often in the ring unless Charlo can keep him at bay with the jab.
I keep thinking it will be similar to the Jacobs fight but Canelo has gotten a bit better since and Jacobs is a slicker, defensively more responsible guy than Charlo, Charlo has the power and the killer instinct to punish with counters though.
If this was the Canelo from his undisputed run I'd say he wins by stoppage mid-late rounds, taking his recent form into account I go with a clear decision win with Charlo might getting off the floor at one point.

Canelo has shown that he can't be beat with only a jab. He's gonna start timing it at some point. And he's willing to walk through it if he has to. That's what he did to little g. Little g tried to fight behind his jab in the rematch and he got walked down and punished all fight. Plant tried it early but eventually canelo got the hang of it and started walking him down. Canelo's head movement makes it extremely hard to land that jab consistently. And most of it is just wasted energy.
Jermell gonna have to sit down on his shots and trust his power. Getting canelo's respect is the only way to deter him from coming forward. Dig to canelo's body early to weaken his legs and then come on strong late. But it's easier said than done. Especially when canelo is superior defensively and is making you pay for every mistake. I do think jermell has enough power to hurt canelo but he's gotta be willing to stand in the fire and trade with canelo. It's the only way. The best time to hit canelo is when he's throwing. It's almost impossible to land clean any time else.

I'm watching the All Access show now and Charlo was watching this exact fight and said "Man, I could move faster and better than Caleb Plant"

As much hate as Caleb Plant gets, he's an impressive mover. In none of Charlo's previous fights has he given any indication that he can box circles around anyone. And to me, it's a dumb gameplan to even attempt that
shyt if I was Charlo I would go for broke and play possum. Let Canelo come to him, and Charlo can use his decent counter-punching ability to set traps for Canelo. Let Canelo overcommit so Charlo can catch him with power shots. Trade with him, but do it in a smart way

Yea I don't think jermell should respect canelo anymore than his other opponents. He gotta stand his ground and make canelo respect him. Fight like he belongs there. Canelo can be hit when guys punch with him. They just gotta be willing to do it and be sharp defensively. The latter is the big question mark. Can jermell trade punches with canelo without getting hit with heavy shots.
If this is the canelo of the last 2 years I see this as a 60-40 fight. His reflexes have slowed down and he can't put his punchers together like he used to. And jermell will be the most athletic guy he's fought since Lara. If jermell can keep his speed this is gonna be a good ass fight.
