A lot of these dudes have been watching the sports for years and still really don't get the sport.
If you think Charlo is going to be a power puncher at 168... you really don't get the sport fundamentally. His best bet is going to be to try to circle to the right and jab all night on some Lara shyt, but in terms of power, he's not going to have anything for Canelo. Conversely, Canelo will be the biggest puncher Charlo has faced in a sanctioned bout by far. People do this weird thing with power now that you either have Wilder, Julian Jackson one-punch destructive power, or you don't have power. "I mean, he's a volume guy. He's not really a one-punch KO guy like that. Ryder took his power, so I think his power is a bit overstated." Look, Canelo clearly punches hard af. As you start moving up in weight you're fighting naturally bigger men that absorb punishment better and that are more durable. Once you get to 160, in my opinion, you start getting to the weight classes where some guys are legit world championship contenders just because of their sheer size/toughness in the division. Yeah, there are outliers below, like Jarret Hurd, but you will see more of those kinda guys at 160 and above. For example, JCC Jr. does not have one world-class boxing skill, but off sheer size and toughness, he was a championship-level fighter. Canelo has been hurting these dudes and stopping a lot of them. He clearly punches very hard at 168.
This is diabolical matchmaking because Charlo is a name. It's a scalp, but it's a very low-risk fight for Canelo and he knows that. Some people will try to convince you that David is an easy fight for Canelo, but Canelo does not even believe that. He can seemingly mention everyone else's name as a potential opponent but David's. shyt is funny. I'd much rather see Charlo fight Tszyu, but I am happy Charlo will get a bag for his troubles.
