Mel has a good chin, and Canelo isn't a destructive puncher, and he himself started at 154.

I imagine Mel manages to see a decision. I wonder how he'll adjust to fighting with the extra 11+ pounds.

It's a fun matchup though. With Canelo beginning to show signs of slippage, and Mel enjoying his success at 154, there's just enough plausibility to think that Mel has a shot of upsetting Nelo. At least moreso than his brother, who was out for too long.

I’m not giving a solid chance to Jermell and it’s farcial that Canelo drags someone up 2 divisions.
Jermell is a good fighter obviously but not good enough of a boxer to neutralize Canelo and no good enough of a puncher to take him out, esp with the difference in weight classes.
He struggled with Harrison and Castano and tbf he closed both of those rivalries convincingly but how am I gonna believe you give 168lbs Canelo serious issues after that.

You're comparing Brian Castano to Canelos Alvarez. Come on man, be real. This is a farce ass fight. The only way Jermell isn't brutally stopped is if Canelo has lost a step significant enough to even the playing field. Other than that Charlo is getting his ass WHOOPED. To me this is career suicide. This is not a diss to Jermell, who is a very good fighter. But he's jumping up in weight to fight an all time great who still has some juice left. He will get hurt badly if Canelo is even 75 % of himself. But hey, this is boxing. Anything can happen.

This is basically a super middle version of Shane Mosley vs Delahoya. Everybody expected Oscar would be too big and strong. Which is why he was a 2 to 1 favorite. But it was Mosley's athleticism and quickness that came out on top. And surprisingly he also looked like the stronger guy. Oscar just couldn't keep up. This could very well go the same way. Especially since canelo's defense and speed has slipped over the past couple years. Jermell has the fresher legs and better stamina.

Derrick James wouldn't have taken this fight if he didn't believed jermell could win. This is gonna be a very high level chess match. Won't be a walk in the park for canelo in the slightest. I favor canelo 60-40 but he's gonna have some problems with Jermell's athleticism and skill. These are the types of fights boxing needs. That arena is going to be fukkin madness on fight night. In the meantime David's fat ass can take on Morell, jermall, or Andrade. That fights not going anywhere. If he can't make it past them then he was never built for canelo anyway.

This may be career suicide for jermell charlo. yeah, I'm sorry, but this is shameful for Canelo and PBC. It should have been Benavidez.

To be honest save that fight for cinco de mayo weekend next year. May be next year still a huge fight but if Canelo fights 2 times a year it’s usually cinco de Mayo and in September. So he’s on course. We just gotta hope they both get through their oppositions.

Nah actually it does make sense to let it marinate. Right now an excuse is lined up. Benavidez only has one notable win, and not much big fight experience. This will be used to discredit Canelo's win. Canelo about knock off both the Charlo twins. In this time frame, Benavidez has the opportunity update his resume, wit 1 or 2 more credible wins. It should go this way, bc haters quick to trying discredit, and water down all the work Canelo put in

No, it doesn't. The hype for the fight is here now. You marinate a fight to increase the demand. Benavidez just beat one of his main rivals at 168. He's the interim champion. Everyone wants to see it. Let's say the fight does better on Cinco De Mayo, than it does Mexican independence day (which may be the reasoning), then why have this farce of a fight now?
