You right. Problem is the "stop hating, get money" mentality came about in the mid 00s from the south mainstream music, and it affected black music for the worse. No one strives to make better art anymore. It's all about money, and exposure over shortcuts.

Every era has it's own unique sound and trends. I think we're kinda in a transition stage right now when it to R&B/soul music. The Doowop Motown era had to transition to the 70s funk era, the 70s funk era had to transition to the smoother Disco era, both funk and disco help birth hiphop, soul pop, Minneapolis sound etc. I feel like in terms of black music something is cooking it's just not quite done yet.
