it is crystal clear why canelo wants kovalev :heh:
Yeah it's so obvious now lol. Kova needs to start building an adamantium core otherwise Nelo will put him out under 6 :ufdupavb:
I mean Yarde didn't really land much body shots (though those who did were hard ones), like he started to do proper body work in the 7th and he opened Kova in the 8th smh.

kovalev is def cashing out...instead of going after the other light heavyweight champs...i wanted that fight off the gotdamn table :francis:
At this point he loses to all of them... based on today
Imagine if Beterbiev gets him hurt the way Yarde got him in the 8th...
Bivol is too fast and schooled for him atp
Gvozdyk too probably

Gvozdyk and Beterbiev have questionable chins so there's that but... :manny:

Kovalev steps to his left and gets this weird angle and throws that jab and follows up with a right.

The jab comes off like a power punch it looks.

I felt Yarde punched himself out in that big round where he had Kovalev ready to go, and that was the lack of experience right there.

Specifically, he started that round great with the dirty boxing and body shots but once Kovalev was broken and in survival mode, Yarde got too excited and started whiffing haymakers for the entire last minute of that round. and i was watchin like ruh roh, this nygga's tank gon be GONE the rest of the fight lol.

And we saw that happen the very next round; he did nothing but posturing, chest beating, and ice skating to mask that he had nothing left but to hope for one big shot, instead of continuing the dirty boxing and body work.

I think Yarde's stock still went up after that fight. Man really just need to bring another dimension to his game that's all. For 6 rounds, dude just wanted to counter because he was faster but couldn't properly get the timing because well, Kovalev is still Kovalev. Yarde fought to counter all his pro fights so he expected for it to be the same here. The 3rd round, he switched it up and did well and that was the recipe to beat Kovalev (advancing, working mid-range to close range, body work). 7th round he did it again with more consistency and that led to almost him putting Kov out in the 8th. If he can mix it up a bit more in the future (and stop relying on the philly shell all the time like an idiot), then he'll get a belt sooner than later. Man has too much atleticism to not get good results with better fundamentals. I mean at some point he was emulating that RJJ stance with his right hand in front and left hand low trying to counter and he was almost landing only thanks to his speed. Get him a proper coach, make him lose a bit of muscle and he'll be at the top soon.

I found that strange, he didn’t look gassed the next round, maybe he got hit with some shyt and thought twice.

to answer canelo is levels above yarde but so is kov. Canelo less power but better bodypuncher. Much much better counter punche better punch selection, better accuracy, better defense, may have a better chin and def the faster guy coming up. Also more experience at the, highest level. Though I wouldn't put all the chips on canelo since I have never seen him at this weight and kov is a bloody good boxer (you, can count on one hand how many rounds he lost in his career) but it is interesting. All Imma say is this dude kov may have the best jab in the game and nelo in for a tough night
Yeah I was a bit ignorant of Yarde's (lack of) boxing but now I see what Canelo see in the Kovalev fight. 7th and 8th round told me what I needed to know though as you said, we'll have to see how Canelo behaves at 175. Agree with Kov's straight left, that punch of his is great. I don't know how many Yarde ate but you could tell his nose and his right eye were getting busted up after like 4 rounds. I think that's the round when Yarde started touching his nose often.

He ain't have no energy left in them arms; shyts probably felt heavy like sand bags so he was tryna buy time. Problem was Kovalev recovered during that time period, got his second wind, and and started popping Yarde in the face.. who still didn't have the energy to dirty box. So he just postured and pointed to his chest to try and get Kovalev riled up.. Kov kept his cool and at that point shyt got ugly
