  • Hiroshi Tanahashi – 8
  • SANADA – 6

B Block Standings

  • Taichi – 6
  • Shingo Takagi – 4

For all the complaining about Goto and Naito, they seem to be doing fairly well.

:heh: the stuff with Goto and Naito have nothing to do with this G-1 breh.

And they've been in the position they'll be on Sunday a bunch of times.
Goto is the one wrestler who can be booked to have a big shot in the finals holding tie breakers over Jay White and Jon Moxley and yet you can already feel the shyt won't matter.

Like Naito, no matter how strong those two are being booked in the G1, there is not an ounce of faith it will actually mean something unless they win the G1.

Without getting too much into it, I've always felt that Dragon Gate had a very specific insularity to it that other puro promotions don't seem to have. The style is different, the roster and presentation is different from the rest of the major puro promotions (also, the roster seems to rarely change; the major guy they were seemingly cycling in left with CIMA), and the booking/storylines are actually quite a bit harder to follow in terms of beginning and end points, since relationships tend to have long, convoluted, and necessary multi-year histories behind them. You may not need to know about Ibushi's history with X wrestler to enjoy his angles and matches, but that's seems to be much more of a requirement in DG (in my opinion, at least).

Given all that, it's not a surprise that it has an ardent and dedicated fanbase, but also people in America seem to care less about it. There are guys who are or were somebodies in DG that have no rationale for being somebodies unless you sift through a decade-plus of semi-necessary history. NJPW newcomers are running into that stumbling block now with people like Goto, but you don't absolutely need to know Goto's history to care about him and his matches.

That's just my view though, I might be wrong. But I do think there legitimately are major aspects of how DG works as a promotion that factors both into its appeal and its lack of accessibility for newcomers.

These announcers need to be produced just a bit. Or given some talking points. Kevin Kelly & Rocky going back and forth, see-sawing and trying to figure out who has been mathematically eliminated is hurting my head. Their job is to know the path for these guys to get to the finals, them not being 100% certain takes alot away from the matches. We need to know the implications of a match you fukks. We can say what we want about JR or any of the WWE commentators (deservedly so), They may fukk up the name of a move...or a wrestler...but they would NEVER come into one of these nights unprepared like that.

Kelly and Rocky arguing 15 minutes into the Okada/EVIL match trying to figure out if EVIL still had a shot at the Finals had to be the most embarrassingly unprofessional shyt I have ever seen. Like that was the most basic information needed going into the night and they had no clue.

Gedo seems goddamn intent on having the entire A block end at 8 points. Useless b*stard couldn't even bother to put SANADA over in his final match against Fat fukk Fale. :francis:

Shingo/Ishii was so good :mjcry: Everything I wanted :wow: Shingo/Naito was excellent as well.

Top two matches tonight were awesome. Tana finishing stretch was great stuff, the hook superkick :damn: I feel like Okada/Ibushi had a bit more to give, much like Omega/Kota last year, still a fantastic match though.
