Wrong, again. Where you join from has nothing to do with how much you get for BAH. Stop spreading false info :snoop:. The only things that affect BAH are:
1. If you are married and have dependents
2. where you get stationed, not where you join from
3. Where you end up going to school after you get out (you get paid BAH while in school, you can go to school anywhere in the country as long as you get accepted).

I'm sitting here trying to figure out where you're getting this information because it's completely wrong :mjlol:.

I am getting it from an Army Vet who gets 100% disability and also helps others get 100% disability. But I am guessing you probably know all about that right?

Maybe I don't have every detail right but I know it does play some sort of role.

But this is the same board that said you can't get almost 100K from disability even after I posted the link to the special payment chart and know at least 7 people who get it. One did administrative work his whole career.

Just because you are in or have been in the military doesn't mean you know how to take full advantage of it. In fact, the vast majority don't which is why I told dude to look into it, speak with someone who has already got the disability and go in with a serious plan.

Man, stop it. If you want to join, just do it.

I joined the USMC under Bush Sr. and the ONLY reason I got deployed was because I volunteered to replace another Marine whose wife was giving birth.

Went in on an 'open enlistment' and didn't get to choose my job. It was chosen for me based on my ASVAB score. 95%+ of those in the military will NEVER see combat so these fears about being sent into combat just because you're in the service are entirely without merit.

It's just a regular job with damned good benefits and opportunities to advance based on performance.

Also were you apply makes a difference in your pay. So try to join in a place with a higher average rent.

:whoa:

No, ma. Where you apply makes absolutely NO difference in your pay. Where you live (on or off-base), how many dependents you have, if you're stationed overseas or in a combat-zone, your rank/time-in-service/time in grade, your job, and a few other variables directly affect your pay. I'm saying this as something of an expert since my MOS was Personal Financial Records Clerk (3421).

You will NEVER get rich in the military, but you can live comfortably. Don't get it twisted, though, as there are many service members who receive welfare.

I'm still serving...15 years in.
Its worth it breh, everyday.

If you go in, make a conscious effort to do all the leadership, training and education you can get your hands on because it's free.
And traveling abroad too.

I'm only speaking from the perspective of one who DOES know what he's talking about rather than someone who's heard it second or third-hand. Of note, also, is the fact that my younger brother got 75% disability from the military so I can also chime-in on that subject a tad from an objective POV. People tend to let their emotions rule their responses and that doesn't allow for constructive dialogue.

Where It’s Not Safe
I had a blast:DenzelWhatever:

Got disability, got a free GI Bill ride thru college & aboutta buy my first house off the GI Bill.

It's up to you. Not every branch or job is for everyone. AF & Navy are more white collar while the Marines & Army are more blue collar. Basically technical experience vs hands on experience.

Got a family member joining the Marines right out of high school. He's one of those dead set on the Marines for whatever reason. My question is would it be better if he weighs his options like college instead of straight to the Marines.

If he's dead-set on becoming one of us, then just let him know that he'd be better-off getting some school in BEFORE enlisting as it will increase his pay-grade/rate and open-up more opportunities after taking the oath and during his enlistment.

Hell, he'll start as an E-2 rather than E1 out of Boot Camp and, since he can't really do anything with that money while in-training, upon graduation from MCRD, he'll have about $5,000 in the bank unless he got additional sign-on bonuses. In that case, it could be as much as $10,000.

A lot of people join the Marines for everything that they advertise: you’ll get respect, you’ll get to handle weapons, you get to see combat, bytches will flock to you, and you prove yourself against crazy odds

Those are the cats that get either recycled (start training from Day One) or get Baked Chicken Dinners that screw them up for the rest of their lives.

I saw cats get recycled after the 5th-6th Week. One cat got transferred to my platoon after getting recycled from week 10......:mjlol:

He should wait if he going to a legit college and is going into an officer program if not tell him to go ahead and join and get a start on his career I graduated HS a year early to join because being a Marine is all I’ve ever wanted to do started out as an E1 and picked up E4 at 2 years and E5 at 3 joining early was the best decision I have made it set me up to be successful early on.
