I personally prefer to work remotely. I have been going to the office 5 days a week and it's killing me lol but in the next few months, I will be doing 3 days work, 2 days remote. My goal is to do 5 days remote eventually. fukk this office shyt.

True, I definitely feel the same way too. I’ve been running a Black owned bookstore for almost five years so just being in what might be a more conservative and white office environment will be a shock to me. :russ:

Any connectivity issues with remote or is it all based on internet connection? I just wanna be sure I don’t ever have to run into fukk shyt I gotta fix just to do my work. :beli:

Brehs, which is better? At home or on site work? I’m finishing up a program in May that’s gonna get me my A+, Linux Essentials, Server, Net, and Sec +. I’m really interested in just doing remote shyt from home but I wanna hear from brehs already certed up on their experience in this.

If you're new to the industry, working remotely might stunt your growth because you want to be in a position to ask as many questions as possible and pick up on other things by just being present. You will not get this via Slack or whatever messenger service you use to communicate with your coworkers. Work in office for at LEAST a year and then explore remote options.

True true, realistically speaking I can see myself starting small with some help desk bullshyt for a few months while I look for other jobs. But thanks for the insight, I hadn’t thought of that advantage of being in an office.

Depends, working from home would definitely cut back on a TON of expenses like gas, lunch, and tolls (here in Houston)

But I would lose my mind being in the house all day. One of the best parts of work for me is actually meeting people so I couldn't do it.

Unless maybe I had an office where I was doing that while also running another business as well.

Well I wouldn’t actually stay at home. I’d go to nice cafes and do my work also.

I got promoted today :blessed:

But these dudes low balling the hell out of me :francis:

Talking about a 15% increase when I've been busting ass these past few months. But it's kind of expected though, you always make more when you jump ship. Internally they'll always try to low ball you.

I haven't signed the offer letter yet but at minimum I deff should be getting at least a 19% increase. Gonna meet with my manager to negotiate. Increase or no increase, I'm still out there door. As a Senior Analyst I'll have more pull when I conduct my job search :ld:

I pretty much got what I needed from this role: a promotion in less than 2 years :obama:

All praises to the most high :wow:

congrats breh

Thanks man. I do feel pretty good. I kinda knew it was on the cards though, but I guess it's the $ increase that I'm a bit hung up on. I don't want to say it's a slap in the face but damn man I feel like they could have done a bit more. My industry and company is also not the highest paying so there's that.

The other company I had interviewed with was talking an additional 25k minimum on top of what my new salary would be with the promotion. That's why I was really pulling for the role and got bummed out when I faltered towards the finish line.

Either way, I'm mentally checked out and out the door. My promotion wouldn't be effective till the 3rd week in March and I wouldn't see the salary increase till 2nd week of April (around my 2 year anniversary). That's my target for when I should have found a new position.

Now that I got the promotion I'm bout to hit the search with "Fire and Fury" word to Trump :demonic:

Could someone recommend me some stocks outside of Cannabis and Tech. I'm thinking biotech, transportation of goods, or any other nascent industries that may be taking off. Any thoughts appreciated.

Once my ATL trip is wrapped up this weekend I'm gonna put my head down for the next 8-10 weeks to land a new position before I clock my 2 year anniversary. I kinda had all my eggs in one basket last time around. Now I'll interview widely and ensure I'm pursuing all my leads like they are the only ones. Lent coming next week also gives me a good foundation for focus.

I wish I could feel "settled" with this job. Each day I become increasingly uncomfortable...bored with what I'm doing. Then I keep trying to tell myself to chill, it hasn't even been 6 months. At the same time I know when things don't feel right. ugh

Saw a position for a QlikSense Developer...it was Junior but salary was ~$116k, according to Indeed. I called to get more details on it. I am technically a "Jr" developer as far as skills go, but my experience is Sr. Level. I don't know. It's about locale and money at this point. I doubt if I ever like my job, but I can be fairly comfortable and not commuting nearly an hour. Damn I wish knew what to do. Don't want to stay and be complacent, but also don't want to make another mistake job wise.

This was me like 10 months ago. My position was role was so foggy and I felt my skill development blunted. Toss in the fact that my entire team got restructured and we had to build from the ground up. I had a hunch to dip after my one year anniversary but mentors advised sticking it out till at least 18 months since this was my first position out of college.

Advice was both good and bad. The good is that now I've gained some pretty good experience and have been promoted; I have the leverage needed to go elsewhere. The bad is that I spend 10 months in a role that essentially had me doing admin and ops work while the team and organization was getting it's ducks in a row.

Now there's finally some structure around the team and budget has been approved to get additional head count but even still, team won't be fully ramped up until the end of the year.

I've learned a very valuable lesson. Do not stay at a corporation longer than you NEED to be, not necessarily want to be. Always have a vision of the bigger picture and the moment your current role takes you off course of that bigger vision, then it's time to move on.

Things are getting settled after a long stint of unemployment, so I try to keep that in mind. At the same time I'm like A job, not THIS job can accomplish the same thing. I don't have to be unhappy to be "stable" and I can just keep looking, just naturally make sure something is lined up before I leave. I also don't like Government work. I will only ever build reports and reporting solutions because they don't allow access to the data. In order to get access, I'd need to get a clearance above a Public Trust and that's a hassle too. I really want to be able to access/analyze data AND provide reporting too without without someone needing to interview my neighbor. I have a week off before my next semester starts and I'm going to use it to start figuring out the type of position I really want, and then a good plan to obtain it.
